Definitely a bummer, someone else in the Pacific with f/w carrier capability would be nice. That said, it's kind of hard to call something a cancelation, when it never got beyond the talking/study stage.

In related news in canceling my plans to buy a Maserati next month. The house in the Caymans is still up for discussion. :-)

from annual report of NPP "Polyot"
http://e-disclosure.azipi.ru/upload/iblock/3f7/3f7af5309ff21d8ed96c3a25909f836c.rar in russian

citation:
"R & D "S-108" - Development onboard complex C-108 for aircraft Su-35 - 50.8 million. Rub.- increase in sales in 2015-2020. 1 478.4 million. rubles. by delivery to China 24 KSS and 60 KSS - Vietnam, Venezuela, Indonesia and planned payback period - 2019"

so it seems China will buy 24 Su-35 and 60 Su-35 in unknown proportions will buy Vietnam, Venezuela and Indonesia , of course this is long time to 2019 and this plans can be changed

"R & D "S-107-1" - The development of onboard complex of the C-107-1 to equip the Su-35C - 19.2 million. Rubles. - Increase in the volume of sales in the 2013-2020 years. to 1.3236 billion. rub. by concluding a contract for the supply of 96 KSS for the Russian Defense Ministry, the planned payback period - 2017"

in ~2017 there will be 96 Su-35 in Russian Air Force

"R & D "S-403-1" - The development of onboard complex of the C-403-1 to equip helicopters Ka-52K, Ka-52 - 11.9 million. Rubles. - Increase in the volume of sales in the 2016-2022 years. to 1.9951 billion. rub. by concluding a contract for the supply of 158 KSS for the Russian Defense Ministry, the planned payback period - 2019."

so in ~2019 there will be 158 new Ka-52/Ka-52K + ~80 already produced

"R & D "I-21" - co-financing the development of onboard complex of the C-111 to equip the 5th generation aircraft T-50 - 1.7 mln. Rubles. - Increase in the volume of sales in the 2013-2020 years. 1 940.6 million. rubles. by concluding a contract for the supply of 65 KSS planned payback period - 2019"

so in 2014 there is plans for 65 PAK-FA around 2019

Of course this is plans not for planes production, only for some systems, but this indirectly gives an estimate scale of aircrafts production

DCNS Unveils the Shortfin Barracuda Block 1A for Australia's Future Submarine Tender
quote:

DCNS will propose the world’s most advanced conventionally powered submarine – named the Shortfin Barracuda Block 1A – as its pre-concept design for Australia’s future submarine Competitive Evaluation Process (CEP). The submarine takes its name from the Shortfin Barracuda, an indigenous species of the Barracuda found in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
...
“While exact details remain confidential, DCNS can confirm the Shortfin Barracuda is over 90 metres in length and displaces more than 4,000 tons when dived,” said Sean Costello, CEO DCNS Australia.

“If selected the Shortfin Barracuda will remain in service until the 2060s and the Block 1A platform will be updated and upgraded with new technology developed in France and Australia,” Mr Costello said.

“The technical evolution of the submarine will be enabled by a strategic level Government to Government agreement between France and Australia.”

About Radars for nuclear "destroyer" 23560

advertising, advertising and nothing except advertising from "Agat" [:)]
http://i.imgur.com/ke1k4OE.jpg
in few words:
main radar, L-band, AESA can be fixed/rotating (fixed on 23560, rotating on 22350M)
range against RCS=0.1sq.m 1300/800 km
range against RCS=0.02sq.m 870/530 km
range against RCS=0.005sq.m 610/380 km
max height 250 km
Radar dimension 7.1x7.1 m
weight 24 t
power consumption 1330 kW
number of emitters 2956

also we can see this radar (rotating variant) in this 22350M promo video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnvjhqrTd5s (0:35)
rotating 24 t radar on ship [:)], even 30n6 weight 15t , oh well...

AESA G-band
http://bastion-karpenko.ru/VVT/AFAR_G_SALUT_MVMS-2015_04.jpg

Dimensions 1,5 × 0,8 m
range 150 km
max height 20 km

AESA S-band
http://bastion-karpenko.ru/VVT/AFAR_S_SALUT_MVMS-2015_03.jpg
can be in three dimensions 3x3 m number of emitters=3552, 2.7x2.7 m number of emitters=2016, 3,3x3,5 m number of emitters=960
range 600 km 400 km 300 km
height 50 km 50 km 50 km

so this is how radars for 23560 look like now
until all this good thing came all can be changed so, as I say, advertising [:)]

A Letter of Request (LoR) was sent to at least four foreign companies: BAE Systems, DCNS, Lockheed Maritn and Rosoboronexport.
...
Select bidders have until July 22nd (which is extremely short) to respond with detailed cost and technical proposal. According to the LoR, the IAC-2 aircraft carrier should have a displacement of 65,000 tons, a length of 300 meters and equipped with Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). Some interesting things about Chinese optronics.

Aviation Star (A-Star), a private Chinese company specializing in opto-electronics for military and civilian applications, recently revealed a series of posters depicting their products. Most interestingly, they have revealed a number of systems that should be considered cutting edge in the Chinese military, such as the EOTS and EODAS systems. While the EOTS and EODAS here cant be confirmed as the same onboard the J-20 (and the future J-31 production version), these export variants still might give us a rough idea about the capabilities of similiar systems deployed in the PLAAF.

EOTS-86: A long-band ImIR targeting system with a claimed detection range of 110km against F-22 sized targets and 150km vs. B-2 sized ones. Long band IR detects the IR-emmissions of the air-friction on the air-frame of a flying aircraft: The faster the air-craft gets, the hotter it will be. The longer detection range vs. the B-2 as claimed, could be explained by its overall larger size which produces more air-friction at a wider surface. Sadly, no target speed figures are given.

[image]http://i60.tinypic.com/ri9rgh.jpg[/image]
[image]http://i60.tinypic.com/mcpslz.jpg[/image]

Max operational alt and speed: 20,000m and Mach 2.5
Visual cone is 200°.
[image]http://i61.tinypic.com/33cr6ep.jpg[/image]

And the DAS:

Sadly, the datablock is too small to read.

[image]http://i62.tinypic.com/de0dpy.jpg[/image]

Hongjian -> RE: Naval and Defense News (7/21/2015 9:21:14 PM)

And another very interesting piece of information, albeit with less official data: New Chinese IR-guided medium range/BVR missiles.

The F-80, which apparently is the flagship missile carrying the standardized long band ImIR seeker that can fit on other weapons as well:

[image]http://i62.tinypic.com/25hha4o.jpg [/image]

KD-30, using the same seeker, appears to be an AGM:

[image]http://i60.tinypic.com/30vdx1w.jpg[/image]

KD-30, using the same seeker, appears to be an AGM:

[image]http://i60.tinypic.com/30vdx1w.jpg[/image]

And it seems that A-Star is also offering that seeker as an upgrade for the existing Russian imported R-27ET AAMs in China's service (or to other customers who have those in their arsenal):

[image]http://i57.tinypic.com/2580xdv.jpg[/image]

A full loadout of a Flanker 4x R-27ET with seeker upgrades, one KD-30, two Kh-31P/YJ-91, 2x R-73 on ECM-pylons and two S-55/56 combined EO/Designator-pods on the wingtips:

Japan Defense Ministry Unveiled Details of "27DD" Class Railgun & Laser armed AEGIS Destroyer
[img]http://i.imgur.com/CBm0uvD.jpg[/img]
quote:

According to the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MoD) request for proposal (RfP) to bidding contractors, the 27DD destroyers will incorporate a number of design changes compared to the first batch of Atago class guided missile destroyers.

First, the hull of 27DD has been enlarged to an empty displacement of 8,200 tons compared to the original Atago's 7,700 tons. It is believed in the Japanese defense community that the enlargement of the hull was conceived in order to provide a necessary growth space for advanced naval weapon systems that are currently under development in Japan, and will be incrementally added to the ships' arsenal as they are developed -- such as railguns and laser point-defense systems.

Looks to me that the booster separation from the missile went wrong, at five seconds into this clip you can clearly see the missile tumbling through the air while the booster is burning out. If the warhead on the missile would have exploded, there would have been a lot more damage then this.

Yes, would have been better if I had said it malfunctioned, my fault. But I guess that it was a training missile without a warhead.

There are discussions on Chinese military forums about whether this twin-cannister TEL really carries YJ-18 or an entirely new missile system not seen or heard before. Since the YJ-18 is said to be based on the 3M-54 "Sizzler", acquired through the import of the Russian Kilo-class SSKs, the screengrabs clearly show a missile of considerable length, with, what appears to be a larger diameter booster section at the rear. This is definitely no 3M-54 or any missile related to the Klub-series of AShM.

Some people even suggested that this might be a Chinese mid-course ABM interceptor missile.
