Sator -> [WAD] Sensors Window (2/16/2015 9:40:16 PM)

Build 673.
I selected the "Sensor" button for a single ship. Then I disabled "unit obeys EMCON" and ordered radars on. The ship activated radars as requested.
Later I noticed that in the "Sensor window" radars were reported passive, and "Inherit from parent" resulted still selected, even if actually they were not.
In the picture you can see how the two sensor windows report different conditions.

I wonder if these boxes shouldn't be coherent.

Saved game.

This looks like WAD. When you instruct a unit to ignore its EMCON setting (in order to tweak sensors manually), it doesn't matter what the EMCON settings are; the unit will maintain the manual per-sensor settings you are ordering.

Please let us know if we're mis-understanding this.

Thanks!

Sorry but I am a little confused. Maybe too many buttons switch the same things … [&:]

In the picture we have 3 different boxes, all setting sensors. No one matches with the other. In detail:

1) DOCTRINE & ROE for side / EMCOM settings
- Radar: passive
- ECM: active
- Sonar: Passive
2) SENSOR BUTTON with Unit obeys EMCON: ON (This box reflects the actual status of sensors).
- Radars: off
- ECM: off
- Sonar: on

3) UNIT STATUS BAR (Unit obeys EMCON: OFF)
- Radars: active
- ECM: passive
- Sonar: active

What do we see?
Radar is off and doesn’t obey Unit status box(3).
ECM is off and doesn’t obey Doctrine (1) even if “Unit obeys EMCON“ is ON.
Sonar is on and doesn’t obey Doctrine (1) too.

My main questions are:
a) what is the sensors box (3)at the bottom of Unit bar good for? Is it really useful or just confusing?
b) don’t you think there should be some auto-check to avoid the activation of conflicting settings as I did?

Thank you for your great job![:)]

1) It is not the _sensors_ box, it is the _EMCON_ settings box. EMCON is the emission control protocol that your unit will try to follow _IF_ you set it to obey it. It's what will (hopefully) keep it from eating HARM after HARM. Sensor status is what is actually happening with your sensors. Clear?

2) There is, and I just re-checked it. Bringing up the main Doctrine/EMCON/WRA window and changing the EMCON settings automatically refreshes the drop-downs corresponding to those very same EMCON settings.

Now if your real question is "why have the same dropdowns in two places", the answer is: Because many players asked for it.

If your question is "why are you not e.g. changing the radar EMCON from passive to active when light up a radar", the answer is: What you are doing with your sensors, in manual control, has no effect whatsoever in what the unit is instructed to do when it has AI control of its emissions.
