Knickers -> Research Bonuses Limit? (2/18/2015 7:27:22 PM)

Is there a limit to the amount of research bonuses that you can acquire from special locations?

On this screenshot the game has only listed a handful of research stations that give bonuses, yet I have control of at least 20 more.

It is the station with highest bonus that you get. In your case, the stations in each category that have a 29% are the ones that get listed. It is these ones you want to put your scientists on. The others are considered irrelevant for bonuses as they have a lower bonus than the ones listed.

So you don't get a bonus for any lower ones?

There should be a bonus from the best location for each field, where the "best" is the one with the highest location bonus and scientist bonus added together.

This means that research locations may be quite irrelevant if you get hold of one of the research sites with +100 bonus.

I can see why the bonuses don't stack. You would be through the entire tech tree in no time at all.

does this bonus add to research speed if you are already at max potential prior to building the station on the bonus planet?

Only if the bonus gained from the new site is better than the bonus from your current best bonus site.

If your question is more generally whether or not the research bonus sites allow you to research at a rate greater than the empire research potential, the answer is yes. The research bonuses are multipliers on your research output, which are applied after the basic research rate is determined (by either empire potential or empire research capacity, depending on which is lower).

Here's a research tip:

1) At your well-defended homeworld, big one big research base (Weapons Tech) with lots of every type of lab. That is your core facility. You'll want to make it Weapons Tech, even though you'll have multiple lab types, because the weapons tree is twice as many RP to finish as the other two. So when you get to the end of the tech tree you'll be stripping off the unneeded labs, and the weapons labs are the ones you'll need longest.

2) Copy/paste three clone lab stations of absolute minimum size, with only 1 lab each. These are you "bonus" labs and shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred credits of upkeep each. Yes, they blow up easy. They also take ten seconds to build and replace. Spam these all over with wild abandon - the enemy won't be able to kill them all fast enough. Just make sure none of you scientists are on them - move them all to your main (defended) lab back home.

So you'll get all your core RP from the main base with the scientists, and then keep about 3+ of each type of bonus lab in various locations. Since the bonus is applies to all research, not just that station's labs, this means that your 1 measly lab at a +30% spot will give that +30% to your home base station with it's 100+ labs as well.
