What are the bests altitudes for tactical and strategic bombing?..i dont seem to graps that very well and cant make the most out of my bombing runs I use tactical about 10000 feet and strategical about 30000.is that ok?..should i lower strat one? Another one..how many fighters per bomber do you use in mission scorts?

Your tactical air fb's and fast aircraft can use low altitudes more safely. Use your tac bombers at higher than 16000 so they avoid light flaks most effective range. Strategic bombers I wouldn't fly below 16000 (except maybe bomber command at night). The rule is that the lower you bomb from, it increases your accuracy, but don't fly slow bombers into light flak effective range. Plus it depends on what your trying to accomplish. I've sneaked tactical aircraft in at 2000' before and took minimal losses, so just keep trying and see what works. Also I actually change bomber alts every few turns or so to avoid interceptors. Vertical distance also reduces interception attempts.

Thanks for the reply. So..where i can find what are the médium bombers, what ones are heavy and so on? I struggle with that and assing manual AD and scorts wish we could create airgroups separating médium bombers, heavy ones with their scorts.

If it has one engine, it's a tactical FB, if it has two engines it's a light or tac bomber, and if it has 4 engines it a long range or heavy bomber. The abbreviation next to it's name in the commanders report/air groups tells what type aircraft are in an air group. You can get a lot of information using the commanders report and it's essential to use it imo.

The B17F can fly at 37000 feet. At that altitude, it never gets hit by FlaK....although enemy fighters will still shoot them down. The americans, when grouped together, I fly at 31000 feet. I take minimal Flak...usually only damaged aircraft. The british planes have much lower ceilings. The Lanc and Halifax is 23000 feet...the wellington 21000 feet...the Stirling 19000 or 17000 feet depending on model. They will get shot down by Flak....so I fly them at night....at 21000 feet. (give the stirlings to somebody else) You will lose a handful every mission. When I bomb a ground target...its gonna get ugly for Flak, but I am bombing for a reason. So I except any losses and go for it. Usually at 15000 feet. Hopefully most of the FlaK damage will be damage and not shot downs...so they can be fixed. Just minimize the damage by not interdicting/bombing every single turn. Oh...and try not to bomb ground targets with Strat bombers. If you feel you must, fly them high. They will do some damage, but will take horrible flak damage if you fly them low.

When I first started messing with the air directives, and picking squadrons, I had to keep using the wiki to look up what each aircraft was, and what it was used for historically. Especially the British ones, since they just use names. I then try to keep the named british planes and the equivalent American numbered ones together in the same air HQ's After a while you will figure them out as there isn't really a lot of strat bomber types.

Thanks for the reply. My idea was to have one hq for tac bombing one for médium bombers and one for heavies so i could plan AD'S with diferent latitudes easily. Too bad we cant create HQ's What about scorts? How many fighters pero bomber more or less?

You don't have very many escorts...you are bombing targets that only the Lightnings and Mustangs (when they show up, which is fairly soon) can reach. And only a few squadrons at that. You don't really have the luxury of picking and choosing. Send all your bombers at a target..or a tight cluster of targets. For example: for the Uboats, I would target the city/town of Stade (2 hexes west of Hamburg. I would set Area to be 9. I would leave Intensity at MEDIUM. Its a DAY mission. Press <TGT PRI> put everything to zero/none (far left) except UBOAT at the bottom. Set that to high (far right). Notice the numbers beside the names...that tells you how many points are available to be bombed in that region. The number in the parenthesis is the amount of damage(summed) over all the factories of that type in that area. Leave it at AUTO..but notice the ac #/esc #...this is the amount of aircraft that can fly AT MAX Look at WEATHER. It tells you the Current Weather..and the minimum weather needed for you to fly. You suffer more operational casualties in bad weather. Click the Advanced Options below the line under WEATHER. Change the SCHEDULE to D2 D4 D6 lit up..the others dark. You will only fly on those days. Set the Altitude for 31000 feet. Follow Path = YES PART ESC = YES go back and notice what the GROUPS: AUTO says for aircraft..again..these are the aircraft that will be flying. It should be a few hundred at least for bombers. And whatever can fly for escorts. If for some reason the numbers look to low, you can click the AUTO button under groups. This will list all the aircraft by squadron. The ones greyed out cannot fly. Tick the NO FLY INFO box at the bottom. The greyed out boxes will give reasons why they wont fly. Usually because of range. Sometimes because of altitude. Or maybe something is set to fly only at night and its a day mission...or maybe you didn't turn supply on in the airbase after transferring planes to it. Hit DONE to get out of this screen and hit CONFIRM at the bottom... Now you are ready to FLY! Make sure you have a STRAT RECON mission flying to the exact same area. Pick the same hex...same area...same <TGT PRI> Make sure the altitude is 35000 feet. I usually fly everyday, but you can fly on the days you aren't bombing as well. D1 D3 D5 D7 BOMBS AWAY!

After the missions have flown....click the little + sign in the AIR DIRECTIVE SUMMARY in the middle column under RAIDS. for the 8th Airforce BOMB CITY air directive. It will give you a nice summary of what UBoat factories got hit and how much damage they took. Its probably not a true value but at least you know you hit them. The score wont lie, however, so hopefully you will be suffering less negative U-boat points.

Iirc, very high alt fatigue penalty is not modeled, just accuracy hit.
