to be specific AE was developed from a 2X3 game. Matrix/Slitherine do release a number of their games on Steam.
I doubt that many 2X3 games are going to see any significant updates to the game engine. It's possible some games might be distributed there pretty much as they are now, but don't expect any integration into Steam's system.
This is just speculation on my part. I'm not a Matrix or Slitherine employee and I have no clue what it going on in marketing.
