With KB confirmed at Java, your two CVs near Midway should take on whatever that TF is approaching from the SW of it. Could be an amphib reinforcement convoy. I hope you have at least a couple of cruisers escorting your CVs in case they bump into something during the night.

On the wiping out of the Dutch and British Malaya air forces I can add this:

All I use those air forces for in the first six months is defensive CAP.

Sending the bombers after IJN ships is a waste of planes and pilots.

Regardless of the desire to "strike back with anything I can" that overwhelms an Allied player as he is getting steamroilled, it is best to resist the temptation.

The key to hitting anything with those bombers is training, training and more training.

After 6-9 months of training the Dutch bomber pilots actually start hitting things.

The key to keeping them alive that long is relocating to an island base that must be hit from the sea like Timor rather than being overrun from land like Java (after landing at one of the bases you don't have enough troops to defend).

However, setting up a bastion Timor can easily break the AI.

I agree with BBfanboy. With KB busy you 'should" have a free run at the TF headed to Midway.

"Should" means that in an IronMan scenario there may be a mini-KB escorting it.

1/24/1942:

Singapore falls. I was planning for a long siege, saving up supplies, while I should have been building forts. It would have helped to pull back as many men as possible into the city, because now I have 2 pockets with British soldiers that have nothing but starvation in their near future.

I have counted at least 4 KBs by now. 2 in DEI, one by New Guinea, one by the Philippines. I am starting to see air strikes of 87 zeroes and 78 betties.

Dutch airforce did try to stay out of the fight, but when IJN landed at Makassar and staged betties there, tables have turned. Dutch airfields got quickly pounded to dust despite 100 defensive CAP. At this point in time I might as well disband them all, and if there is still somewhere to come back to in 120 days, they will...

1/28/1942:

Port Moresby falls. I guess it's for the best that I did not try to reinforce it: as many as 6 IJN TFs went for it.

While RNN only managed a single minelaying run per CM, the little that was placed does bear fruit. Another Mogami-class CA and a Againo-class CL got clipped.

Dutch airforce on the other hand is not even trying to take off anymore, losing planes on the ground.

USN sends a reinforcement convoy to Midway, and RN - to Port Blair despite unquestionable IJA air supremacy in the area. In the meantime, IJA troops reach outskirts of Pegu, crossing the river.

I have only ever produced one AAR and that was for another game I was beta testing.

It was a tactical game series with the most incredible AI in any game I have ever encountered.

The designer is Panther Games which used to be linked with Matrix, but they have moved to another publisher.

My AAR is now buried in the discontinued games forum under Command Ops Series.

It was an AAR of a scenario depicting KampGruppe Pieper's drive to the Meuse in the Battle of the Bulge.

In addition, I believe there are 5 major AI offensives that the AI can pick from and of course I have no idea what you have...probably have to wait until April 42 to start getting a picture on that.

PS: Be careful with Allied mines...that seems to be something the AI doesn't handle well. It is good at including sweepers with amphib invasions, but when you drop mines at choke points not so well.

Very true.

I used to mine both sides of the straits between Java and Sumatra and since the AI likes to circle Java with it's CV TFs it was just too easy a way to devastate the IJN in the DEI.

I no longer do this.

This was a double turn, a kind that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you just cannot wait to see how a battle would turn out.

Port Blair has an Air HQ, 4 AA regiments, and 29K of supply, but the price has been more than steep. Both RN CVs get thrown into the battle just to draw enemy planes away from transports. It helps, but even their CAP gets exhausted. 16 planes do not come back, flight decks of Indomitable are in shambles. This is likely the only action those ships are going to see for a few months, about to be reclassified as airplane transports.

What this does not show, is that while transports were of the cheapest kind, the ships were all the ones with the highest AAA values west of Pearl Harbor.

It is nice to see AI react quickly to opportunities. After the first wave of Betties loses 7 to my CV aircraft, the next raid is accompanied by 50+ Oscars, and the party is over.

Multiple landings in Java and in Palembang. Merak falls. Dutch airforce plays a game of hopscotch, trying to operate from whatever patch of dirt they can find, but with no success.

IJA troops have reached the river SE of Pegu. Despite inferior odds, they are inflicting superior casualties on my defenders. As I am clearly unable to get any more supply to Burma, their surrender is only a matter of days now.

Where did you rearm your CMs? After the initial run I had to pull them back to Colombo, as neither Batavia nor Soerabaja were able to assist.

The stock release has 13 scripts. The Ironman on Steroids releases could have only five scripts, since the start point is already high on the aggressive side.

You have paid a steep price for Port Blair! Some of the British xaps will convert very early into landing ships of some type...get them somewhere safe as they are quite valuable. In fact there are a lot of interesting conversions out there on the western half of the world.

The battle is not yet over. That transport TF still has 33 ships, and is still at Port Blair. I wonder if I should detach all the combat ships and just leave transports to scramble for themselves.
