In ATG it seems like the quantity of factories is limited to the quantity of native cities. (Also factories cannot be too close together.)

But should that limit the quantity of airbases?

I reached the limit and the list of possible builds will not even display, under any circumstances. I get "building not an option." I even destroyed an existing factory and waited a full turn, but that did not help.

I'd like to build unlimited airbases. Can this be modded?

Thx

Yes, this can be modded.

I wasn´t even aware that there was a limit in stock ATG. In non-stock ATG you can make anything buildable, for nothing and with no distance modifiers too....

Thanks! I've never modded anything but am starting to study how it is done. I play random games against the AI, based on generic.at2.

Am I ten minutes, ten hours, or ten weeks away from knowing how? (to modify a copy of that file, to remove the limit on building airbases). I looked through the editor and the documentation, but did not yet find how to set this.

Is it a simple setting or woud a new version of generic.at2 need to be built from scratch?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

What? There's a limit to the quantity of airbases you can build? Seriously? I have a hard time believing that, as I never encountered this problem. Moreover when you write "I even destroyed an existing factory" but that didn't help either... I get suspicous. As far as I know you can build unlimited airbases in ATG, I think you have a problem elsewhere. Is your engineer unit on a good location? I mean not a mountain or anything? Or is it in newly conquered territory? Does you engineer unit have all the prerequisite (supply, PP, Raw and EP). I don't know just guessing here.

Thx, it was none of those issues (newly conquered territory, resources, etc.). I did some careful testing on that.

But I love the game and have figured out an easy workaround:

1. Create a random scenario with 3 regimes and give 2 to the AI, allied with each other.

2. Edit the newly created scenario, giving my lonely regime extra cities.

3. The extra cities allow me to skimp on building factories, so I can build unlimited airbases, if and wherever needed.

Seems that should work. ATG is by far the best turn based game I've ever played.

The 1. 2. 3. just mentioned did not work. At some point in a generic.at2 random game on my Win7 PC, all building everywhere shuts down, under all circumstances. Mousing over the build button always gives "Building not an option."

Maybe it is some kind of a regimevar. I need to learn more about those.

I do have a workaround and am still very happy with ATG. The workaround is:

1. Create a random scenario with 3 regimes and give 2 to the AI, allied with each other.

2. Edit the newly created scenario, giving my lonely regime extra cities and adding lots of airbases all over the map.

The extra cities make up for the AI having two regime's worth of cities. The airbases all over make up for the eventual universal "Building not an option" message.

One more thought: Maybe the building shutdown has something to do with the fact that I always choose OFF for Use Resources. That is a somewhat unusual setting, I think.

Aha! I knew something was odd here hehe [:D] I always play with Resources on because it adds so much fun, so that's why I didn't recognize the problem. Guess it's solved then, I think [:)]
