TIK -> Strategic Map Edit Help (3/13/2015 6:19:20 PM)

I'm trying to create a new mod and need to change the strategic map - which I've never done before. I've got BTD-Editor but I'm a little lost tbh.

I have an image of a new strat map I'd like to use. How do I get the game to recognise it? Am I right in thinking the ScrnGadg.gdg and CCImages.pix files contain the image of the existing strat map? And is BTD-Editor the only way to access these files?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what you mean by BTD-Editor.

I would suggest using Mafi's BED9
I assume it will work for GWTC?
BED9

You are correct that its the CCImages file and the ScrnGadg file.
You also will have to edit the StratMap.text document found in the maps folder.
I haven't looked at the files within GWTC but if its anything like the previous games you will have a LOT of editing to do.
Scenario editor screen,all the cutouts,debrief screen....its a lot

I would also suggest talking to DAK_Legion.
He's done quite a few Mod conversion for TLD.

Edit:
I did take a look, things look different for GWTC.
Hopefully Steve can explain the files within the ScrnGadg

Good Luck with the Mod.

Thanks for the reply Michael!

Sorry yeah I'm using BED9 - the program's called "BTD-Editor" when you extract it.

I think I've figured out one of the problems I'm having. When I run the program it doesn't display the maps correctly [Screenshot below]. It's the same for the strategic map and all the other images. Interestingly, it only does this for GWTC and PITF. It works correctly for the other games, e.g. LSA. I'm assuming this is because GWTC and PITF have 32 bit graphics?

Is there a solution to this? Or another program that works correctly?

I have the same problem.
I cant get the Preferences to open on my end.

Maybe there's a setting in there.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I've managed to get the Preferences up, but I'm not sure there's anything in there to solve this issue...

I'm beginning to wonder what the "Version Number (Game)" number on the right hand side is all about?

Platoon_Michael -> RE: Strategic Map Edit Help (3/14/2015 11:11:39 PM)

I suppose you could make a copy of all your maps.
Use 5cc to extract them to 16 bit TGA.
Then use those copies to create your BTD's.

You keep your 32 bit maps separate.

TIK -> RE: Strategic Map Edit Help (3/15/2015 4:04:23 PM)

That's a good way around it. What I've been doing is using 5CC to put a grid with coordinates over the maps so I can edit the BTD's in notepad.

The issue is still with the strategic map and all the other parts that are included in that. I've loaded up the LSA strategic map in the BTD editor (some of the images display!) and have a bit more understanding now about how things work. Can't bring up the image for the LSA strategic map though either. And I'm still not sure where the pictures are stored, although I'm assuming they're in either the ScrnGadg.gdg and CCImages.pix files.

Platoon_Michael -> RE: Strategic Map Edit Help (3/15/2015 4:29:26 PM)

The files that I saw by looking at the ScrnGadg for GWTC are different.
The STRAMAPAREA00_000 and etc are showing up as all White on my end.
I have no idea why.
Maybe they changes the way images are displayed ingame.
from the StratMap text file.....
# Disabled, Allied, Axis, and Highlight color mask for Strat map components
0x600B1800
0xFF375B92
0xFFAF2919
0x40FFFF80

That is definably different than from previous releases.

And it looks like GWTC has extra images to edit.
I guess you could call them the Battle direction indications.or Arches...whatever.(IE STRAFRONTLINE50_000)And (STRAFRONTLINE50_000)
Neither one of those looks to be fun to edit.

The debrief images look to be the same as previous versions to me.

Why are you looking at the LSA stratmap?
This is clearly not the same as the other versions.

Platoon_Michael -> RE: Strategic Map Edit Help (3/15/2015 4:36:31 PM)

A simple test for how to understand the images would be to use Photoshop.
Start with the map that is considered first in the game.
Its probably labeled as Zero.
Add each Image you know is being implemented in the game and look at the results to be entered in the StratMap.txt file.

from there you can see what X/Y W/H etc needs to be used.
X/Y = left /right.W/H= width/Height of said map area tile.
Then use the hotpoints from the StratMap text to define where the support Icons and BG Icons are.

In previous versions the STRAMAPAREA00_000 was an image that defined the actual cutout on the strategic map..

Now it appears to be different.
You will have to have Steve explain his.
I Have no answer for this new adjustment to the game.
