DanSez -> Noob in trouble - no Przemico Please - amphib unit says WillNOT unload (3/17/2015 3:57:28 AM)

Like I don't have enough trouble trying to take Palembang, but this unit is saying it will not unload - noticed it a turn or two back and I have changed the designation to other enemy and friendly ports. Apparently these boys are onboard these transports until they are sunk...

Here is the Task Force

Here is one of the transport ships

Says the LCU is in combat mode/load

and finally, this is the unit on that transport

I don't think it is from a restricted HQ.

DanSez -> RE: Noob in trouble - amphib unit says WillNOT unload (3/17/2015 4:01:05 AM)

I can change the task force destination to Singkawang, or any other enemy port and the Task Force message WillNOT unload Unit (that is the red text) does not go away

I have even targeted a friendly port - still says WillNOT unload Unit.

Very odd.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Doesn't matter where your target hex is. If I understand correctly, it is telling you that the TF cannot unload in it's current hex. Obviously that is usually going to be of no interest to you! IIRC they don't bother to display that message in sea hexes, only in land (aka coast) hexes, and of course only when the terrain prohibits the TF from unloading there.

DanSez -> RE: Noob in trouble - no Przemico Please - amphib unit says WillNOT unload (3/17/2015 5:20:12 AM)

That would be funny -- I did not notice this message until this task force got close to target and it is hugging the coast of Java.

I will try to force it to land at Palembang the next turn (changed the threat level to High).
Hope you are right, thanks for your time and answer.

Will report back next turn if or not it lands.

BTW, when dealing with Palembang, Rangoon, Calcutta, (and I am sure other places) where you have to cross a river (purple with the F6 key toggled) to get there, there is a tonnage limit to the size of ships allowed to pass. But I believe that if you have a ship in the TF that is too large, you are literally not allowed to set that place as their destination (an error message is displayed when you try to).

DanSez -> RE: Noob in trouble - no Przemico Please - amphib unit says WillNOT unload (3/17/2015 8:01:58 AM)

Yes I heard about this difficulty and when I setup each amphib task force, I chose Palembang as destination to see if I got that error message before even loading the troops on the ship.

Turn sent to my opponent, will see tomorrow if they unload as ordered.

thanks again

This is how it is for sure. Have noticed it many times as an amphib TF hugs a coastline in transit.

BTW, if you hover the mouse cursor over the "Can not Unload", it shows you reason why. It can be handy sometimes when wondering why unit etc. doesn't unload completely. Usually it's because some devices are too heavy/cumbersome and exceed the capability of ships and port to unload. Radars and Engineering vehicles are main culprits in this.

like whats been talked about when you get to palmbang it will be fine don't worry.

If any ship in your TF was too large to get to the port (destination hex), the TF would not allow the hex to be a destination hex, so having ships too large is not the issue. As you transit hexes that you can not unload at (shore hexes that is) and just happen to stop at that hex due to the turn finishing on that hex, it will indicate that you can not unload in that hex, whether or not you have/had intentions of doing so or not. It's for information purposes. Hal

thanks for the confirmation -- still waiting for the return file to see if it unloaded

I've noticed a problem similar to this when trying to unload a transport task force into a 1-level port without any naval support already ashore. I've had to move the task force to another place to unload the rest of the unit.

In that case, is just sits there turn after turn. I didn't notice a message as to why.

thanks

unfortunately there is a big fat UK division already parked there
First time thru the game against a human player and I find so many holes and tricks and trip-ups. It is a learning experience.

thanks

I noticed this 'problem' a turn or two back. I ordered this task force to hug the coast a few squares North of Palembang with a little extra ASW support to try and drown some of the Allied submarines in shallow water. The Japanese depth charges seem a bit more effective in the shallows.

The task force accepted Palembang as a destination without any error message. I have seen the little text pop-up warning about the destination not being legal or valid.

thanks

This is why you should never use transport TFs for level 1 ports if carrying devices too large to unload over the non-existent docks.

Many of those devices can be unloaded by the abstracted lighters inherent in an amphib TF.

Always use amphib TFs to transport large devices to level 1 ports.

There is message about not being able to unload but it is in Operations Report and thus easy to miss.
