Someone mentioned this and I thought it was a great idea: live AARs.

TripleA's Axis and Allies has this, and it's terrific for learning the game and seeing different styles of play. The visitor can write comments and ask questions on a chat channel, while they watch the game as it happens.

You would probably not want an in-game solution, but perhaps a new WiF forum for live actions games with a permanent explanation of how to do it at the top. Or just add a permanent explanation of how to view a live game at the top of the AAR....and then have live some sort of mechanism showing which games were open???

I use a Mac usually, but have a PC side for this game, so I am not up on how this could be done, but surely it is possible???

It is possible using various meeting software. But it would require a very stringent availability schedule for the players. I suppose a session could be recorded and replayed continuously.

What exactly is a "live AAR", plase?

You mean recording it in Youtube? Streaming a game? [&:]

Forget it, it was explained upstairs... sorry, I read it too fast. [:)]

I was thinking more like having a game going and people could drop in to see what's happening and leave as they like. The visitors could only choose to watch whatever games were playing at the time....

paulderynck -> RE: Live AARs (3/19/2015 5:40:50 PM)

So then we could chain the players to their computers and beat them if they didn't play 24 by 7? [;)]

I would be glad to volunteer. I wonder how long I would last...

Pratically just to have an "Observer" function, one joins a Net-Play game, without having to do anything at all, able to see the moves though of the players involved.

I really hope this happens, but it also needs to be recorded so people can watch them in off hours and in the future. But personally, this would help jump start any of us wanting to learn but struggling to get started.

Zorachus99 -> RE: Live AARs (3/20/2015 1:12:44 AM)

There is streaming software and public websites for this facility already. No need to program a single bit. Every game I play is being streamed.

Keep the Steve cycles dedicated to the bugs. Perhaps then we can hope some of the 'official' optional rules might be implemented.

*sigh*

CanInf -> RE: Live AARs (3/25/2015 7:13:15 PM)

could we post the instructions on how to stream? I don't know how to do it and perhaps if the same method was used there'd be an opportunity to build a viewing community

CanInf,

I would suggest reading some of the below help pages. There are also several YouTube videos with similar information.

Clearly someone with a micro-bit coin per hit...
