Crossroads -> Alan R. Arvold's Ode To Panzer Leader: The Original 20 Situations (3/20/2015 3:11:55 PM)

Wargamer's Game Depot scenario store having closed down, in co-operation with Alan R. Arvold, I am posting all his Avalon Hill Panzer Leader boardgame situation conversions to The Blitz Wargaming Club Scenario DB. To download them, one needs not to register with the club, so it seemed like a good place to have the scenarios available to everyone.

I am uploading the PL situation conversions at a rate of two scenarios per week (more or less), as among other things I am running each scenario through the automated test script Berto's made available. So it takes a while.

But what better way to run down the clock towards the 2016 release of MCS 3.0, where all these scenarios will be available within the game itself.

And who knows, with the new Zoomed-In 2D view available, all going well there just might be a Panzer Leader Counter Art mod available to play them in a proper manner.

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this little rendez-vouz with these 1970s classics already with MCS 2.02. In the following posts the scenario title will be a link to the download page.

Enjoy! [:)]

I thought I'd give each of these situation conversions - both for PB and PL - a proper introduction so they get all the visibility they so fully deserve.

There's some 80+ PB and 70+ PL situation conversions coming up. Future's looking bright! [8D]

My sincere thanks to Alan R Arvold for having these available to be shared with everyone.

Thanks for working to keep these great scenarios available. Please pass my gratitude on to Mr. Arvold for a job very well done. Much appreciated.

Thanks Zap. It is indeed likely some of these situations are better balanced than the others. I have not seen any articles on PB situation balance, but I know there's one covering all the original PL situatios. I am talking about the original board games, and as I recall the article was published in Avalon Hill 'General' magazine.

Panzer Leader situations are discussed in detail in Avalon Hill General Volume 16 Number 3. Download link for those interested can be found here: http://www.ahgeneral.org/index/ahgenv16.htm

Download is 400 MB as it is a high quality scan so be aware [:)]

EDIT: I am a fool for PB/PL art, so if you think I was omitting a chance to display some of it here well think again. [8D]

PL situations are discussed in this article:

And here's the original situation card for Situation #13: The Fortified Goose Egg. A typical PB/PL scenario, where victory conditions depend on number of (town) hexes controlled. Another common victory level determinator was the amount of enemy counters destroyed or own counters remaining in the map board.

All these make for that much more difficult conversions to JTCS. My kudos to Alan for his consideration in preserving these situations as close to their original format where possible.

Again, see HERE for all his design notes on Panzer Leader situation conversions. There is a similar posting regarding the Panzerblitz conversions. They make for an interesting read for sure [:)]
