sfbaytf -> Possible Compliment to Command? (3/22/2015 3:06:32 AM)

I'm new here and don't know if this has been asked before, but could Point of Attack be the answer to the ground combat part of Command?

rvseydlitz -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/22/2015 3:50:57 AM)

POA2 has a lot of good points, but very many problems as well, not the least of which is that it seems near to impossible to get any feedback from the developer, who has been trying to fix the engine for several-perhaps 5- years, during which he has managed to release 2 partial patches. It is quite a shame really because it has the potential to be for land combat what CMANO is for naval and air... a simulation with no equal.

mikmykWS -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/22/2015 3:54:37 AM)

We'd like to add land combat at some point but it could be sometime off.

hellfish6 -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/22/2015 4:55:27 AM)

I've been interested in POA2 for years, but I never heard anything good about it. Someone did a writeup on it in the SimHQ forums lately, and it kinda confirmed my worries about it.

I'm gonna wait for Command: Joint Warfare.

76mm -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/22/2015 7:52:32 AM)

I made the mistake of buying the WWII version of POA2--Tigers Unleashed. It was unplayable upon release and then the developer basically disappeared. Supposedly he had some personal issues, dunno, because he never appeared in the forum. I'll think two or three times before buying another game from HPS.

I'm kind of partial to Armored Brigade. AB is currently freeware, with lots of modability, and sound , fun gameplay.

hello! I can suggest as a complement to the ground combat "battle command" http://www.historicalsoftware.com, has different feature: A great support from the developer, is fully editable (realistic maps, units, scenarios) and does not have all the problems which, unfortunately, is plagued poa2 of which even I desperately wait new patch !!
After poa2 I looked for a replacement and found it in battle command, of which has many similar features!

Bipman -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/22/2015 7:46:38 PM)

Hi

I have POA2 and Tigers unleashed and I know the author is working on it all the time so is still in the process of being polished off. I second Stefanoc too as the support and realism from Historical Software for Battle Command is fantastic. Highly realistic and many options too.

Looks interesting for sure. I'll wait for the AI to get done, though.

marcpennington -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/23/2015 10:53:19 PM)

I checked out Battle Command based on this thread, and gotta say it does seem like an extremely impressive product. For those who are hesitant on the missing AI issue, it's coming soon, and there are many scenarios already in place (such as the Normandy ones), where it is possible to play against the computer as the German side are on the defensive in static positions.

But it does have a fantastic look and feel to it, and a flexibility to it that reminds me a lot of Command Air Naval.

Anyone know what ever became of Tacops?

Tacops, became Tacops.

It was the 1994 Strategy Game of the Year apparently, and is still for sale. Last updated 2008.

hellfish6 -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/24/2015 11:35:12 PM)

I was a huge fan of TacOps. I still don't think there's anything like it, but it's also pretty old. I haven't played it this century.

thewood1 -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 3:44:48 AM)

POA2...nice try. But they so cocked it up trying to fix it. I wouldn't bother.

bradinggs -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 9:26:52 AM)

Still do TacOps every now and then.

hellfish6 -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 12:18:26 PM)

TacOps does/did have a lot of things going for it that Command might be able to get a little inspiration from - having 20(+?) players in multiplayer, with a game master, and the ability to alter the fog of war and affiliation of each of them (i.e. commander of 1st battalion didn't have God's eye view of his buddy's 2nd battalion - only what his own units saw of them). It was a lot of fun playing with 5-6 other people, each commanding roughly a battation, against one or two OPFOR players on some of the bigger maps.

Dang. I'm starting to feel kinda nostalgic. Might have to buy it.

Bipman -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 12:27:05 PM)

This is the same sort of thing that can be done with Battle Command, multiple players, observers but on a 3d map. There's also things like BC Radio Net included which allows voice communication on different 'channels' so groups can contact each other without others being able to hear. Once the AI is done it will I think be pretty unbeatable.

If you love tacops you love Battle Command, this is for sure! [:)]

ultradave -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 6:41:19 PM)

Isn't HPS the company that used to sell Aide de Camp for playing/converting board games to computer? There were pre made electronic modules for many games available. If you were good at it you could make your own. You still had to own the game for the rules and tables, but it replaced the board and counters.

Bipman -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 6:46:29 PM)

They are indeed. I believe version 3 is being developed now.

Yes, but it has been in development for many years, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Dogsbody -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 8:17:15 PM)

Bct commander. Seems to be very realistic. Free download with two scenarios.

Cheers :)

Bipman -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/25/2015 8:44:15 PM)

BCT Commander is the older versions of the ProSim titles 'Raging Tiger', 'The Falklands War', 'Star And The Crescent' and 'AATF'. Really good simulations but with hard to read graphics. The AI is really good and difficult to beat and just really needs the interface and graphics updating; bit expensive too (From Shrapnel Games).

OK, Battle Command is on my radar now.

CarlSchwamberger -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/28/2015 10:28:23 PM)

'Battle Command' came up here. I was introduced to it over a decade ago, during the development stage. It imeadately impressed me as superior to any computer based training aid we used in the US military through the 1990s. It would be interesting to compare it in depth to the current ground combat training programs used by the US Army or USMC.

& yes the designer is planning on a AI for the Battle Command game. I still communicate with him occasionally about BC. I'd been disappointed it has not caught on more among the public. He paid special attention to creating a multiplayer interactive game that simulated the problems of the lower levels of tactical command. Unfortiunately several people who offered to develop a player base failed to perform. I guess it takes some sales skill & special attitude? Some folks tell me multiplayers are declining in popularity. Which I could believe. While the AI should bring BC to larger use i hope the multi player version will still be available. There is a much different & more challenging vibe with a live player vs a AI.

hellfish6 -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/28/2015 10:35:23 PM)

For me, I like multiplayer generally, but all too often it's just such a clusterfuck to organize. People drop in and out - sometimes accidentally, sometimes intentionally - and getting a group of people together in the same game at the same time is often more difficult than herding cats. And then the game starts and it often just gets worse. John's in the bathroom right at the moment the enemy decides to attack him, etc.

It's why I prefer single player. I'm a lot more reliable than you guys. [:D]

Bipman -> RE: Possible Compliment to Command? (3/29/2015 7:36:08 PM)

I like to use the A/I to rush up on my tactics before going for multi-user. Is there any way to upload files ? I've got two AARs that hopefully give you a better idea of Battle Command although these only show a very small part of it. It is a St. Vith tutorial from WWII which I am finishing off before I play a much more recent battle. That of course is the other reason for getting it is that it can play any war from WWII onwards.

Yes. It is one of the best wargames out there. They have version 2 and it is FREE. (Scenario packs cost money.)
