Combat Report June 19, 1942 Operation Fizzbin On June 14th, the Japanese storm ashore at Dutch Harbor. This invasion is Phase Two of Operation Fizzbin. The first landing was east at Cold Bay and then this one comes in tight with Dutch Harbor. Recon and bombardments had shown four units present including North Pacific HQ. For the landing an entire Infantry Division is used. Under the protective guns of 4 CL and 8 DDs the invasion force lands taking 646 casualties upon landing. Prep had just gone above 50% so I feared high disruption. Not the case. At the end of the day, disruption was a paltry 7%. While Betty's and Kate's target troops during the day, the infantry launches assaults each evening: 6-16 JDA gets 1-1 lowering Forts to 2 with Casualties being J-469 to A-195 6-17 JDA yoelds 2-1 with Forts dropping to 1 and Casualties being J--367 and A-265 6-18 JDA finishes resistance with a 3-1 assault. For 130 Casualties, the Japanese capture an astonishing 13,586 POWs. NICE! As these assault occur, the survivors from Cold Bay are brought to bay one hex NE of the base by the Karafuto Brigade. Attacks on the 16th, 17th, and 18th finish off those four units yielding a further haul of 4,165 soldiers. Total American Casualties for this period of days is 18,211. Eight American units are destroyed. The Japanese are now done in the North. Time to re-organize and place troops as well as DIG IN!
