And, it is a snowmageddon INP!!!! [8D][8D][8D][8D]

Lecivius -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (1/22/2016 2:56:58 PM)

Yeah, I see Tennessee is scheduled to get 2-3 inches of snow, and work is being shut down? [X(] I realize you guys may not be used to it, but I know it's not THAT extreme. What's going on out there? Philly is closing it's airport fer cryin out loud [X(]

Mundy -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (1/22/2016 3:49:39 PM)

Yeah... around here, that's a mild dusting.

nashvillen -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (1/22/2016 3:50:56 PM)

Actually, they are calling for over a foot in some areas. Where I am at, about 6". Where I grew up, West Bloomfield, NY, that little town had more snow removal equipment than the City of Murfreesboro. West Bloomfield a couple thousand people, Murfreesboro is over 110k people now.

Also, it snowed about 6" every week, on average where I grew up. People knew what to do, were equipped for that weather. Around here, we are lucky to get 6" in a year. And it only comes once a year, maybe...

So, make fun of how the South handles this kind of weather if you wish, but it is just safer to send everyone home, and go back to normal business on Monday, when all this will be gone, by then. No one retires and moves to the North! [:D]

Lecivius -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (1/22/2016 4:46:54 PM)

I'm not making fun [;)] I don't live there, and I try to keep an open mind "walk a mile in their shoes" & all of that. I was seriously curious. Sometime, my curiosity gets me in trouble.

nashvillen -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (1/22/2016 7:21:09 PM)

No offense taken.

Was just trying to give you the facts. It isn't cost effective to keep that amount of snow removal/displacing equipment around for 1 event a year. The sun and the latitude will take care of it quite effectively. Whereas in the northern climates, waiting is not an option. Different levels of efficiency.

Says you, that's what I'm planning on doing. That's just planning, we'll see when the time comes. Always loved the snow. Then again I'm a freak. My friends upstate NY don't call it snow, they call it money. Snowmobile country.

Good Morning! Kids are enjoying one last snow day due to icy roads in the rural areas of the county which are right outside my door. Main roads are clear, just take your time on the back roads. Evidence of those that don't is everywhere. Geesh, when will people learn, to drive in this type of weather, slow and steady wins the race. Not fast and try to slow down when the coefficient of friction approaches zero.

Watching as our 50 degree temps and sunshine melt away the remains of the ice we received on Friday. [8D]

And, with nearly 60F temps yesterday all the snow is gone. That is how the South efficiently clears snow. No extra special equipment needed.

It is a good morning, except for the kids, who had to go to school today... [:D]

Rememebering where I was mid day today 30 years ago... Dr. Ray's Rural Settlement class, third row back, second chair in in Kirksey Old Main on the Middle Tennessee State University campus in Murfreesboro, TN. That is when Dr. Ray walked in and informed us of the Challenger disaster. One of those moments that stick in your brain forever. I have had several more, many more joyous like both my kids births, in the last 30 years, but that one is so crystal clear in my mind.

I was a budding salesman ( which I failed at. I hate to sell, I can't but be honest). The receptionist had the launch on a little 5 inch set. We watched it live. We just parted ways. I got the account later, but I don't remember much else about that day, just sitting around that little screen.
