Deban -> More Allied Questions (3/11/2003 9:46:55 AM)

Hey guys
When is the earliest you can send your CV's back to pearl for thier AAA upgrades?

Im thinking that after Yamamoto's trashing, I might just send my CV's back to Pearl on turn 1 :)

Mr.Frag -> (3/11/2003 9:49:20 AM)

You can send them back on turn 1 :D

They will be back before your next set (assuming standard rules).

Attack Condor -> oh, by the way... (3/11/2003 10:02:25 AM)

If you do send them back, drop the planes off at Noumea ;)

Drex -> (3/11/2003 11:19:54 AM)

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but isn't sending ships back for reasons other than damage gamey? I know it started with the Long Island, but would any commander send back his most important capital ships for AA improvement, leaving him defenseless?

Mr.Frag -> (3/11/2003 11:29:37 AM)

It would be nice it the upgrades were for specific dates, but we have to deal with what we have in game now.

Rumor says WitP might have real upgrade paths and such ...

Drex -> (3/11/2003 11:35:25 AM)

Yeah its a game design flaw but still I can't advise anyone to send back his carriers just to get better AA. At least the wildcats are upgraded in port. If it was just the case of barbette positions being replaced with 40mm Bofors and not a structural reposition then why couldn't it occur in a size 9 port?

Hard Sarge -> (3/11/2003 8:10:24 PM)

the bad part is you never know if and or when you are going to get them back, I would have to say, unless it is crippled and out of action, keep it, may take forever to repair in house, but at least you know it is in house

took me forever and a week of sundays to get my CV's back, when I ran a test on it, LOL even worse, when they came back, they still had the same AA guns as they did when I sent them back to PH

Under ver. 2.3, your opponent can now search your ships in port. If he gets wind that you sent your CVs back to Pearl, then you might pay the price.

The extra AA does help the Allies later in the game as lots of Japanese planes get shot down, but it would be foolish to send any more than one CV back at a time to refit. Sometimes just the presence of American carriers will affect your opponent's decisions

However, situation permitting, I do start to rotate my early-in theater CAs and DDs back to Pearl. Some of them only have the pitiful 1.1 inch guns and 50 cal. MGs for defense.
