HansBolter -> Unable to withdraw ship from level 9 port (4/7/2015 2:43:17 PM)

After the latest patch I now cannot withdraw ships from any level 9 port as was implemented through one of the betas.

Checked and discovered I had to withdraw the British AMC Worchester (sp?) in 5 days and it was in a TF transporting troops to Rangoon.

Since I have Rangoon at port level 9 I figured I would be OK. Ship arrived offloaded troops, disbanded and NO withdrawal button was present.

I had to race it over to Colombo at full speed, suffering two days of PP penalties because it couldn't be withdrawn at Rangoon.

I'm posting from work so I can't dig up save to post here until tonight. Will post save tomorrow.

Just wanted to give a heads up that somehow this got borked in the translation form beta to official patch.

48. Gameplay Change: Allow ship withdrawals at any on map level-9 port and some smaller ports with no enemy nearby. Ships can always be withdrawn from any off- map port or from any TF that is currently off map. Ships that are not badly damaged can be withdrawn from some on-map ports or from TFs in certain on-map regions. For on map, ship may not be on fire, total damage may not exceed 99 and no individual damage type (system, floatation, engine) may exceed 50. Ships may not be withdrawn from any on-map location where the enemy has air superiority. The
intent is to prevent withdrawal as a method of saving a ship that stands a good chance of being lost or further damaged. On map withdrawal ports are set based on the historical exit locations for ships leaving the Pacific:

1. Any level 9 port.

2. National home ports of the United States, Canada, India, Australia, and New
Zealand (with no port level requirement)

3. Any level 7 or larger port on the US or Canadian West Coast.

4. Any level 7 or larger Indian port East of Ceylon (including Ceylon itself)

5. Any level 7 or larger port in South Eastern Australia, plus Perth.

6. Any level 7 or larger port in New Zealand.

I'm NOT A rookie.

The ship had far less damage than the minimum needed to prevent withdrawal even after its high speed run to Colombo where it successfully withdrew.

I also have a massive air force based at the level 9 airfields at Rangoon and Pegu with no enemy air closer than Bangkok.

No Hans, you're not a rookie.

I just had Durban unable to withdraw from Rangoon. I didn't think it would work, but I tried anyway. I usually only withdraw from Colombo, Off Map, Sydney and SF {I even send S-boats back to SF}. I wasn't watching the withdraw list closely enough.

If you can withdraw from any level 9, then it should have worked.

Maybe it is because even though you haven't been attacked in the last three months, Rangoon is still within the range of bombers at Bangkok? It's the only thing I can think of.

Sorry, I didn't mean to respond so strongly. [:)]

I'll dig up a saved game tonight and post it here tomorrow to see if anyone who has the technical know how can figure out what prevented the withdrawal.

I thought the range factor was still in there. At least in the initial versions there was also a withdraw requirement limiting withdraws to ports more than 20 hexes from known enemy forces.

Thank you Bill. I dug up a saved game, but it appears moot.

That is criteria I have never seen stated before.

I may not be a rookie, but the game just delivered a swift kick in the teeth to remind me I am far from a master.

The statement "any level 9 port" is a bit misleading and deserves a qualifier! [;)]

wdolson -> RE: Unable to withdraw ship from level 9 port (4/8/2015 11:22:14 AM)

There are many factors that can prevent withdraw. Ships on fire, under enemy air superiority, total damage > 99, and one damage area > 50 and I checked the range: it's no enemy for 10 hexes, not 20 (subs don't count).

Rangoon is a bad choice unless it has become a backwater and your forces are well east of there.

Yea, I only tried it because I forgot to check up and when I did I discovered the ship that needed to withdraw was 5 days from its due date and carrying troops to Rangoon, but would arrive there before the deadline.

The AI still has 8 LCUs in Moulmien, but I have destroyed the airfield and port and have complete dominance in the vicinity.

I typically use Colombo for most British withdrawals.

Question on this rule: Does Perth count only if it's level 7 or greater, or does it count in any case? I'm trying to parse the syntax here and it's ambiguous but probably not what I want.

Edit: if Perth won't work evidently Melbourne (level 7) is the closest eligible port?

wdolson -> RE: Unable to withdraw ship from level 9 port (4/11/2015 12:17:01 AM)

Probably a better way to say it would be any level 7 or larger port in the southern part of Australia.

Bill

jwolf -> RE: Unable to withdraw ship from level 9 port (4/11/2015 12:40:18 AM)

OK so I have 3 days to get it to Melbourne. Time to put the pedal to the metal.

For the record, what is the rationale for this restriction? As long as the ship has a safe exit route from the Pacific and/or Indian Ocean, who cares from which port it leaves? [&:]

KJ -> RE: Unable to withdraw ship from level 9 port (4/22/2015 5:08:18 PM)

Safe exit - From unseen submarines?

Is this a correct re-cap then:

Ship Withdrawals: Ship may not be on fire, total damage may not exceed 99 and no individual damage type (system, floatation, and engine) may exceed 50. Ships may not be withdrawn from any on-map location where the enemy has air superiority.
1. Any off- map port or TF.
2. Any level 9 port.
3. National home ports of the United States, Canada, India, Australia, and New
Zealand (with no port level requirement).
4. Any level 7 or larger port on the US or Canadian West Coast.
5. Any level 7 or larger Indian port East of Ceylon (including Ceylon itself)

7. Any level 7 or larger port in New Zealand.

wdolson -> RE: Unable to withdraw ship from level 9 port (4/23/2015 1:48:22 AM)

You forgot:

No enemy within 10 hexes (except submarines).

Bill
