Larry Smith -> Weird bugs when collapsing Vichy (4/8/2015 7:39:17 AM)

Attached is a file from an attempt to collapse Vichy. Initially, all I thought was wrong here was some issues that cropped up when the French Fleet re-based. I had to reload the file several times, and once I was left with some now French ships still sitting in German occupied ports when the Land Movement phase resumed. Then there were some calculation errors - some sort of string error. After several attempts, I stopped trying to collapse [from this point], and instead tried again two Axis impulses later; that time the French Navy relocated properly. Each time I collapsed using the German INF in Paris.

However, at this point in time [M/J 1941], I had one FF factory due to arrive in S/O of 1941, and 4 BP in Leopoldville to put toward a second factory, which I do remember building, as I had 4 BP going to FF at this point. However, by J/F 1942, the second factory was nowhere on the spiral, and the first never did arrive, and deems to have evaporated. I think it occurred when I collapsed Vichy, and the FF became just "France" again.

At this point, I am no longer interested in continuing this particular game. But if someone would take a look and maybe play through the Vichy collapse, and see what errors [if any] come up, I would be obliged. Thanks.

the collapse of Vichy have always been complicated to code.. I think it is the area i have found most bugs.

and building factories is a known bug.. the codes to allowed them to be placed, simply donīt work.

Building factories is working OK, to my knowledge (and I tested this quite extensive early this year). However, what I didn't test is what happens with FF factories when Vichy is collapsed.

So, to the bugs reported for this saved game, I have disappointing news. I can't collapse Vichy at all, since after rolling for capture of the Vichy fleet, I get the following information message from MWIF.

So I want to know: are you using any modifications in this game? If so, can you please try collapsing Vichy with no Mods in the game. Such a message might mean that the game is somehow damaged.

After this, a Mad Except happened. I send that one to Steve to investigate.

If I continue this game (but I would advise anyone not to continu a game after a Madexcept), the factory still was on the production spiral at that time (however, with a Madexcept occurring, you can't make a lot of conclusions about a game anymore)...

Aside from different map textures, and the re-colour mods for the counters, no - no mods to the air or land files, and the map doesn't have anything added to it, either.

That looks like the error I got, BTW. I later played through a few more impulses, and tried again, and then I did get the French Fleet to relocate. But I got to J/F'42 before I realized the factories should have shown up.

I decided this morning to play through to the M/A'42 phase, to see what happens when the repaired Leningrad factory turns up. You see, after capturing Leningrad... the GERMANS got the option to REPAIR THE DAMAGED BLUE LENINGRAD FACTORY. The red one came back on line with a German ENG sitting in it during the end phase, AS IT SHOULD HAVE FOR THE SOVIETS when they got the city returned to them following the war with Finland.

Lyons still won't come back on line, so I was going to see if getting the ENG in supply will make any difference.

Something definitely went haywire when I had the Finns take Leningrad.

Okay, here's the M/A'42 file. I just FF to this point. Why the Germans were allowed to rebuild the Leningrad blue factory is strange, as it still shows up as destroyed, and it wasn't the red one as that was active for J/F'42. And putting Lyons in supply did nothing for getting that red factory back online. So something happened here when I collapsed Vichy.

Just as a point of interest, I find I have errors whenever I collapse a Vichy France that had factory cities overrun before it was declared. If I keep the Axis out of the Vichy factory hexes, I don't seem to encounter errors. But this [M/J'41] is the earliest I have ever collapsed Vichy.

The problems in Leningrad and in Vichy might be connected to whatever part of the program is responsible for transferring territory during peace phases. In my case, Lyons was not German until I collapsed Vichy.

All of these should be fixed in version 1.4.0.0. The factory problems are not related to the collapse of Vichy.
