Wild Bill -> Matrix - Our First - The Mega Campaign (4/6/2001 11:28:00 PM)

Perhaps there are some out there who are still a bit curious about just what is a "Mega Campaign," our first product we will be offering for sale. There is a wealth of information and some very interesting screenshots on the subject here at the Matrix site: http://www.matrixgames.com/Games/MegaCampaigns/index.asp Wait a second and the screen will open.Just keep clicking the "for more info" buttons and get the full details. It can be ordered here: http://www.matrixgames.com/orderonline.asp The related sites, both Tankhead and Tiger Prado, have some actual battle screen shots for you, plus more info. http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/sp_waw.htm http://www.tankheadcentral.com/ You'll find a little insight into the game in the article, "Desert Storm, 1941," the one executed by the Desert Fox :D Just scroll down till you find it. You'll love Rick's collage of 1941-1991 in the desert. I would call it a "must have." I hope you will get it...Wild Bill

Thanks Wild Bill! The Desert Storm 1941 is on my Home Page. The screen shots are at the Screenshots Page. Tankhead

What other mega campaigns does matrixgames plan or have in the works already? Desert Fox looks excellent...

Loki -> (4/9/2001 12:01:00 PM)

One question I do have is if there will be a manual. I still have my old Steel Panther manuals, but would still like one for WAW. Printed docs just don't look or work as well IMO. Any plans to have manuals in this Mega Campaign or future ones?

Don -> (4/9/2001 1:04:00 PM)

There is a re-done manual coming out with 5.0, but no manual specific to the MC, I believe. Brent has done a huge amount of work on the "new" manual, and maybe the mega-campaign is addressed in there.

I think that “Barbarrosa” it’s on the way. But... can we make some suggestions for the next? Yes we can! That’s why we are here for!! Or not? ;) :D A big Soviet side one: a Guards Regiment starting at Kursk (Prokhorovka) ending in Berlin’s ruins. :D :D One about Grossdeuchschland Div, those guys fought all along the eastern front.

I'm looking forward to buying the Mega Campaign; however, I think I'm going to wait until your ecommerce service is a little more mature/stable/reliable. I cant order now because of bugs. :eek:

If you mean a complete printed manual shipping with the 5.0 CD release of WaW, I sustain your demand! It's boring to reprint the entire stuff everytime an update to the game is made! :) Maybe there's a way to release only add-ons for the manual instead of a complete package for each update? Regarding the Mega Campaign, I don't think it would be that usefull to have a dedicated manual. Once it's installed, it's clearly self explanatory, isn't it?

Wild Bill- The Mega Campaigns look very good. For someone who enjoys detail in their military simulations, they look like a dream come true. Thank you for your hard work on 'Desert Fox'. I too, though, would be interested to hear what other Mega Campaigns are in the works. Do you guys accept suggestions for future campaigns? Thanks again! Can't wait to see v5.0!

Sorry I've been a little long in answering, guys. Back in the desert again. As to its content, it will have a basic manual, but there is really nothing difficult about a Mega Campaign. The most helpful manual will be the SPWAW 5.0 manual about the game. Mega Campaign is mainly a matter of choices, choosing a battle, then following the path that it may lead you, with your triumphs or losses determining which battle you will fight next. For example, if you are fighting at Agedabia, early in the campaign, and lose, you may miss some of the fighting and not be allowed back into battle (severe losses have caused your unit to be pulled from the line) until a few fights later. That means you lose the opportunity of scoring more points. Total victory is based on how many total points you garner in your long odyssey through the desert in 1941. You can fight as few as 28 or as many as 42 battles. Now battles have options, which mean that when you play it again (it has replay value) you can choose variants of the original battles which may or may not lead you down a different path. Or your score may be higher, allowing you to have more battles. The options go on and on. We've added a little flavor with some pretty intense hypothetical (but possible situations), such as rescuring POWS, raiding ammo dumps, looking for hidden LRDG units, looking for Rommel and rescuing him (He is lost in the desert and needs an escort). Or you might be a part of an end run, an amphibious assault behind Derna or at TObruk Harbor. Who knows, you may end up on escort duty, or fight off attacking LRDG units trying to kill Rommel! :eek: You could be fending off an amphibious assault by the British or looking for a lost German or Italian force. Perhaps you'll be given a special mission to steal some Matilda tanks from a British tank repair facility. And there are a lot more. So it is not just a matter of fighting, but a lot more chances and opportunities, some very unique will be found here. And now some interesting data. You might find this fascinating. There are a total of 132 scenarios and variants, 87 of them original scenarios. There are 200 text files of varying sizes, historical documents and over 200 pictures. So it is enough to keep you busy :D As for the future, why don't you tell us what you want? I see Gallo and others have already mentioned East Front (why am I not suprised ;) ), but let us here what you want. We aim to please! :D Oh, and check Fabio's and Rick's sites for some good info and great screen shots for a little better visualization of what is coming. Wild Bill, Knight of the Desert

I personally would like to see a mega-campaign based on a historical unit. I bet if you look at my forum name you can guess my first choice. :D However it goes I'll buy it because what ever it covers I know it will be a quality product and well worth the money. Thanks to all who have had a part in the mega-campaign, SPWaW v5.0 and Matrix games. Your doing a great job and I look forward to channeling more funds your way for hopefully a long time to come.

Just a curious question. Will there be different language versions for Mega Campaign? (cringing after poking at the hornest' nest)

Mike Wood -> (4/12/2001 1:03:00 AM)

Hello... The executable hosting Mega Campaign, Steel Panthers: World at War, will have foreign language support. The text files found in the campaigns will most likely not, unless sales are much greater than we expect.

Don Doom -> (4/12/2001 1:24:00 AM)

How about Poland or Norway, finland or even France 40. :D

rfox -> (4/12/2001 8:10:00 AM)

As for a new mega campaign idea: I would vote for a career study of a battalion or company commander from 'Das Reich', East front, 1941. The options there are huge. It would be a nice challenge as well. A mega campaign stretching from June '41 through Dec. '41 would be very nice. Really, anything involving AGC 1941 would be exciting. Lots of tank battles. The Germans first encountered the T-34 during that initial push. The first battle of Kiev. Operation Typhoon. And, a mega campaign with that subject matter would probably sell like hot cakes. Just a suggestion... :)
