I'm with AndyW on this (and I found other shots of the Anson in the picture in Google).

Just to tag on to your new guys thread, it may be a little too easy but I always found this one amusing:

wings of a P-40, A-24 tail, F-4u under carriage , and the drive set up from the P-39. It was ready too late for production. Wright Pat has the sole remaining one.

bomccarthy -> RE: Newguys only:What is it#13 (4/21/2015 7:53:44 PM)

XP-75 it is. It looked like something I used to create as a kid when I had leftover bits from various models. The photos below show its design progression before the project was cancelled:

The guy who designed the weird concave canopy must have left GM after the war and gone to Mercury -- he undoubtedly contributed to the design of the Turnpike Cruiser:

wdolson -> RE: Newguys only:What is it#13 (4/21/2015 10:13:58 PM)

Here is a bit of trivia: The patent for the landing gear that retracts straight back (as used on the P-40, F4U, and F6F) was owned by an aircraft manufacturer that only put it in one prototype aircraft that never went to production. What was the manufacturer and what was the prototype?

Symon -> RE: Newguys only:What is it#13 (4/22/2015 12:45:31 PM)

Boeing? XF8B?

AW1Steve -> RE: Newguys only:What is it#13 (4/22/2015 1:02:22 PM)

Vought XF5U ?

Symon -> RE: Newguys only:What is it#13 (4/22/2015 8:09:19 PM)

Stevo, I know you love this stuff.

Patent US2,065,146A, to Roy Morse, Lysle Wood, Dec. 22, 1936, assignee Boeing Co,. The seminal patent for longitudinal plane landing gear retraction with 90 degree oleo strut rotation. Used on many aircraft. Vought paid royalties to Boeing for use on its planes.

Ciao. JWE

wdolson -> RE: Newguys only:What is it#13 (4/22/2015 10:07:36 PM)

Yup, John got it. I didn't know the patent number or the date.

Bill

Aw .. c'mon dude. I know it wasn't a 327, but the 308 short block wasn't all that bad. I know you guys down under are caring and sharing and save the earth kinda folks, and don't like big bore monster cars. But gosh; back in the 70s, you could take your Holden to Don Garlits' speed shop in Ocala, FL, and get her a turbocharger, like in Mad Max, and maybe get her ported for some Nitro in the fuel mix. The 308 was not a bad motor. Bun-bun likes it; thinks it has possibilities. So long as it can outrun what the police are chasing him with
