Figmo -> TIGERS Don't always do it!! (4/8/2001 8:46:00 PM)

I'm playing the long campaign and finally got to September 1942. Tigers are now available and I've been saving my points - so I upgrade 12 tanks to Tigers. :D Then go into an "Eastern European" battle - Oh No - it's Stalingrad - ARGH!! A great big giant map covering almost the whole playing area representing the city - what do I do with my Tigers? Figmo

Reminds me a little bit at M4īs "schoolhouse" scenario, where you also have "tigers" and even "ferdinads" for city block busting. :D _____________ RockinHarry

Not a good idea. Some Sherman tankers tried that in the bocage when the rainy season hit. While they slept, the ground softened and the tank settled on them, crushing them to death.

I played two Stalingrad battles a couple of weeks ago in the long campaign I am playing. I too had tigers to find work for since my 1st company was a schwere (heavy company.) I would suggest spending your support points on infantry, engineers, and flame tanks. Your tigers will come in marginally handy in close support of your infantry as long as you advance them slowly into the city. While you may not see the immediate benefit of the tigers you should get some serious use out of them if you are called upon to defend the city once you take it. That was how it broke down for me. First scenario, assault; second scenario, defend. I dug my tigers into buildings on the eastern edge of town where they had excellent fields of fire. Those 8.8's pack a mean wallop at long range and your tank crews should be proficient at hitting distant targets if they have been in the war for a while. The main thing to remember is to keep lots of infantry around them to keep them (relatively) safe. Don't worry about your tanks not being as useful you'd like. I have had several "advance" scenarios on the open Russian steppes where my infantry company didn't see a lot of use.
