Yes, there is definitely movement there. Makes perfect sense too, to cut one of your main supply roads.

That's the bad news. The good news is,

He is not going back into CK,
the units are easier to kill on roads,
in another month they will be out of supply (which is non sequitur as this has no effect on the Chinese).

It also looks like there is another smudge coming out of CK.

el lobo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/14/2017 1:29:59 PM)

We are taking a short break while Rio moves all his software to his new computer.

-----------------------------------

obvert,

I have finally caught-up with "The Elephant Vanishes," excellent AAR. Thanks for all of the detail. And thanks to all the others who have contributed. I am learning a lot.

You are in a position in Burma right now very similar to where I will be in about a month, minus Prome for me. I am watching your moves closely to see your tactics and especially your exit strategy.

I would ask you about it but I can not ask here as your opponent may be reading here and I can not ask about it in your AAR as I know my opponent is reading it. So for the sake of OppSec for us both, I will just continue to watch your AAR carefully.

Thanks again.

Private Message works great. It greatly reduces the risk of loose lips sinking ships or trapping land units and such in this case.

Thanks Andav,

His AAR is moving along pretty well but if I don't get the answer there I may use PMs.

WAKE Jun 4, 1943 Turn 545

There are so many ships around Wake that I can't get my subs out of the was fast enough. I may step-out of my comfort zone here. I am gathering the KB.

BURMA Jun 5, 1943 Turn 546

Can I kill his Recon? I am fairly certain it is stationed at Prome.

I have swept and bombed Prome and have put a LRcap over the base with no results.

Why do you think so? his P38's have far greater range ... I wouldn't use up close in AF space for something that can much further out ...

And the only 3 ways I know to get recons are with:
1. CAP over their target
2. Bomb their AF
3. AA on their target

BURMA Jun 9, 1943 Turn 550

Rio entered Magwe this turn so this marks the end of Burma's purpose.

Ramree Island has withstood it's fifth DA. Much better than I expected.

In the hex east of Taung Gyi I had two Arty units one day out from joining the road blocking units to their south-east when Rio DAed. They retreated to Taung Gyi so the blocking units do not have any Arty. It is going to take awhile but I will get them some.

CHINA Jun 9, 1943 Turn 550

I DAed two Chinese units at the hex two hexes east of Kunming. The two Chinese Corps have been there forever so I was not surprised when they fell on the first attack. That 1K AV will move to Paoshan giving Paoshan about 3K AV plus a fair amount of Arty for defense.

My AV in CK has been reinforced and has repaired to 4.9K (from 3.7K). I have more Aviation Support about a week out so I will be bringing-in more bombers.

The headless-chicken area.

The KB is three carriers away from fully forming. They have four to seven more days in the yard finishing their up-grades.

el lobo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/22/2017 2:34:50 PM)

Just being a little facetious.

I will explain what is going-on once eveything gets a little more organized. Actually it is going fairly well except I need more ground units.

PACIFIC Jun 10, 1943 Turn 551

There is so much going on here that I don't know where to start.

Iwo-jima, Pagan, Saipan, and Guam are forts six. Haha-jima is five and Chichi-jima is three and building. Marcos is five.

The Bonins and Marianas both have HQ with torps. The five major islands have Netties.

As you can see below, the Allied subs are moving-in. I have four ASW TFs on the way to Pagan with more to follow. They all have an Anti-Submarine rating of eight so unless that is out of ten, I don't expect much from them, but that is the best I have.

The KB is in four different TFs all headed to west of Iwo to reform into two. There will be nine CVs and CVLs in the main TF and four CVEs in the second.

I have two BBs, one CL and twelve DDs at Iwo but I have no idea what to do with them.

I have two ASs at Pagan to help the subs and AKEs headed to Iwo. More supply and fuel is on the way also.

I have three IDs at the HIs but their unit strength is in the high seventies, low eighties. I will start loading them anyway. I have an ID at Davao that is full strength but they are my only reserves. Maybe this is for what I am saving them.

Pretty good naval search to pick up those subs mid ocean like that.

PaxMondo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/23/2017 2:42:30 PM)

Well, mid-43 can be transition time is you allow it. If you are not initiating action, then the allies will start ...

Watching the CR, those subs were detected by Jakes and Nells. The only Jakes I have in the area are on two subs at Marcos Island that arrived a day ago. The Nells are at Iwo.

My Jake subs have performed very well. They were patrolling west of the Hawaiian Islands and a month or so ago they started getting attacked regularly. I kept moving them west until the attacks lessened. About two weeks ago they started picking up Allied TFs moving north-west, I presume out of Pearl, and then west to Wake.

Incidentally, reading your AAR, just a few pages back you discussed recon and said that altitude seemed not to matter as far as detecting. My Jakes at Wake have been flying at 28K.

The subs have taken a beating though via opps and ASW but so far I have lost only one, and maybe one more this turn. I am surprised at how tough they are. As per Pax, I set them at zero React as I do not want them attacking, just looking. They have not spotted any carriers yet but I have no doubt they are in that stream moving west.

EDIT

I was typing this when I got the turn. Looking at the Combat Events, I see that the Allied subs were also spotted by Bettys and D4Y1-C Judys. I have four Judy recon units. Three are here, Iwo, Marcus, and Guam, and one is on the Akagi. The Judys are flying at 20K.

Some people will complain that you are using Jakes on Iboats...but not me. Your game.[;)] It is a powerful naval search advantage.

PaxMondo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/24/2017 2:10:37 AM)

I have to say I'm impressed that your Jake tracked those subs... single unit NavSearch doesn't yield that good for me very often.

Yes I know but that is why I stated right up front that that is how I am going to play, and the title of my AAR.

But everyone plays gamey.

This is not to be vicious at all, but let's take for example, "someone" [8D] who goes for Auto Victory. How realistic would that have been in RL? The only justification for that type of play is that Japan thought that they could do it. But by someone's definition, if achieved, would be very gamey.

And who has not pulled a pilot out of the Reserve Pool and had him in the unit a micro-second later, even though that unit may be in Rangoon or Truk. Realistic no, gamey yes. I could go on.

Besides, they, the Jakes, fit. The Devs could have stopped that. BTW, Rufes do not.[;)]

Thanks for the support.

I am too. But I am a little skeptical as they did not see them prior if we assume they came via Wake. But then again, we are not sure from where they came.

Could the fact that they are in a multiple search area have helped?

PaxMondo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/24/2017 3:07:45 AM)

Possibly ... maybe they were the last 'hit' that got the DL to where they were 'seen'? not sure.

True. The devs gave the IJ a LOT of easter eggs to help the game balance. EX: With very few exceptions, where there were discrepancies in aircraft data, they chose the data set that favored the IJ.
Ditto on a number of devices. EX: the "DP" for the IJ DD's ... given that it had to fully depress to reload, so could only fire about 2/min ... calling that a DP gun is very generous.
There is a long list ...

PRODUCTION Jun 11, 1943 Turn 552

Last turn the last two Locations for the Ki-84a Frank completed their repairs. This turn the Frank advanced to 8/43. With 11x30 and 1x60 (= 1x30), plus engines I will have the Frank by the end of this month.

PaxMondo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/24/2017 12:01:42 PM)

gaining a month every 4-5 days us fun. [:D]

Lowpe -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/24/2017 12:17:18 PM)

Then the question becomes how many facilities will you upgrade to the Frank R and how long till the Sam?

On paper the Frank R doesn't really look that much of an improvement over the Frank A...but it is.

I tell almost everyone that you need to be prepared to trade 3000 Frank A's (or George, Jack, or combination) to destroy 1000 Jugs during 1943 and 1944.

Plus all the other fighting you will do against Lightnings, Spitfires, Corsairs, Hellcats, Warhawks.

Nothing slows down the Allies more than depleted pools of Jugs. Well, sinking the Deathstar, but that is a really tall order.[;)]

Almost every JFB under produces the HA45...spend some time and plan accordingly.

Another thing, look at the plane facility at Harbin...it is your absolute safest and should be big and producing a late war fighter like the Frank A.

Yes indeed!!

Can you confirm this for me?

I am thinking that the way rounding works in the game that it will always be five days.

If I keep eleven Locations R&Ding (with engines) the Frank r, four days to 88 points and the .55 day will be rounded to an even day for five days.

The Frank Ki-84r is 25 months out (43/6 to 45/7).

25 months at 5 days per month = 125 days to complete. 125/30 = 4.2 months.

However, ten Locations should give me the same results, (20 x 5 = 100).

Thanks.

el lobo -> RE: The Gamiest Game in Town. El Lobo (J), vs. Rio Bravo (A) (4/24/2017 1:07:05 PM)

Hi Lowpe,

I posted the above before I read your post. I plan on committing ten Locations to the R.

The Sam is still repairing, the closest two are 15(15) and 11(19), so aways. I have ten Locations R&Ding it.

My Ha-45 is finely tuned, always slightly above 500.

Your factory locations are noted.

Safe, until 9/45 when the SOV activates, then you will lose it within 2 months ... doesn't mean not to produce Frank though ... just be aware that while it will survive the early B29's, it does have a very definite expiration date.
