Frido1207 -> Loading time of user made scenarios (5/5/2015 10:13:39 PM)

Donīt know if this is the right place to ask this question.

I downloaded both single player scenario made by Erik today. (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3854203)

The Betio Island scenario took about 1:30 min to load,
on the Iwo Jima scenario I gave up after more than five minutes. (tried that 2 or 3 times, and used a timer on my last try).

I never noticed this kind of problem when loading the tutorial scenarios or the campaign game scenarios.

It's hard to say specifically what the problem is, but Erik's scenarios tend to push the engine. His maps are often significantly larger, and have many more units than the official scenarios.

you need a lot more cpu and memory and a better than standard vga card for Eriks work, even my poorer efforts with max size map and units have pushed my 32gb i7 with a 6gb card in it, but while it takes longer to load at the start, they don't take much longer once loaded to play

I think the game loads the whole scenario into memory.
So initial long loading times (also in multiplayer), but runs reasonably well thereafter.
And yes, I normally create the map as big as possible [:D].
I usually start with a large number of units, say battalions. Then I often reduce it to regiments after some testing.
I like my games to be as historically correct as possible, but still playable of course.

Pushing the envelope keep the devs on their toes [;)]

totally agree Erik

Erik,

I have a high end system 32GB Ram, 3.6 Intel processor, SSD HD and while the time is a bit longer, it is not excessive! Don't change your scenarios!

No plans to dumb them down.
But some of them started out with even more units, and then I went from ie battalions to regiments.
Sometimes the map will get too cluttered with units.

Gentlemen

I being poor only have a 16 gb ram, an AMD 6 core cpu, and a regular HD. Win 7 Pro 64 bit Are Erik's type of scenarios going to work at all for me or just take longer to load?

I can't test it for myself as I have not yet bought game but am teetering on the edge.

Just your opinions fellas - I know it's not written in stone.

ps. This one has me excited - all the other pacific wwII ones I have - the weakness is the naval combat just lining up in rows like bowling pins

as there free you have nothing to lose, and tbh a while longer to load isn't a bad thing for a good battle, it's worth wait imo

brucemcl777 -> RE: Loading time of user made scenarios (6/15/2015 12:58:23 PM)

I agree Zak - my concern is whether the scenarios will function at all? - I don't mind a longer load time - but am not sure if another 16gb ram would be nesassary - which would involve that cost as well as a new motherboard as my present one only handles 16.

My knowledge of how this memory works is vague - I believe is that it swaps it in and out but I don't want a CTD every 10 minutes because my system can't handle it. If so I may as well wait to buy until I can afford the new hardware as well.

i'd say your spec is more than enough for any battle that's here or coming tbh
