I'm no longer playing AE, but darned if I don't still feel part of the community. I began playing UV in 2002 after seeking an alternative to a simplistic web-based game called "Fighting Flattops." Through fits and starts and occasional sabbaticals ("Vow of Celibacy" and "Shattered Celibacy" around 2009 or so come to mind), I carried on through WitP and AE. I've played multiple games against many of fine opponents, but my most frequent opponent has been John III for some fairly epic matches (and a nod here to Miller also). I retired from AE in September 2013. Not because I'd lost interest. Rather, because I had too much interest! The game is too good! Too fun! Too intoxicating! I had to go cold turkey to recclaim real life. (I gave up wargaming entirely, in fact.) I was afraid I couldn't walk away from the game, but I managed to do so. NOw I'm glad that I did, though I'll always wish I could play. I don't think I'll return to AE, but there's no doubt in my mind it's the finest strategic wargame ever.
