jmarso -> [RELEASED] 1985 Transatlantic Convoy Duty (5/18/2015 3:13:08 AM)

This was my first outing with the mission editor- not overly complex.

This is the classic 'Get the convoy across the Atlantic' scenario from Red Storm Rising. In two days you reach the safety of Britain's coastal pickets and air cover. In the meantime, the Soviets have taken Iceland and their subs have surged into the North Atlantic. The bomber threat is clear and present, as well. During the next two days there's going to be hell to pay. :)

UPDATE 6/8/2015: Latest Version uploaded.

A good first Scenario, well done!

A few points to note:

1. I think you should be using Bear-D rather than Bear-H
2. I would remove some of the TU-22 Backfire and replace them with Tu-16 Badger armed with AS-5 Kelt to keep it in with the RSR scenario.
3. I'd probably put some ASW helicopters (Sea Sprite I think) on the convoy.
4. Perhaps include a friendly SSN perhaps a NATO ally rather than US?

Keep up the good work.

Its a very good first scenario, but i've some critics/advices

-use Bear-D, when i saw the Bear-H i was fearing a nuclear attack.
-last 18 hours where very quiet, the last attack was 10 minutes before scenario ends and i only saw 2 enemy bombers.
-mark an area (destination) and attach an scenario ends event.
-use LUA to create dynamic patrols for the Bears.
-add a third Backfire's raid with 2 AS-4 Missiles each and maybe tanker support, activate this attack 8-6 hours before deadline.
-add a SSGN, maybe a charlie II
-maybe a soviet recon satellite.
-why the 2nd Backfire's Raid is a patrol with 1/3 rule?

sorry for my english, its not my native language :)

Okay, here's a revision of this scenario.

Change log:

-Bears are all Bear-D's now
-Majority of bombers are all Badgers with AS-5 Kelt missile loads
-Populated the magazines at the bomber bases so they can reload and fly again
-Added Soviet satellites
-Removed SH-60B's in favor of Sea King and Sea Sprite helos
-Added helos to the small boys
-Put some air wing assets in maintenance, but not the Tomcats. I figure CAG would pull out all the stops to make sure the F-14's were up and ready for this crossing, given the bomber threat.
-Changed various Air Wing initial loadouts
-Fixed the CVBG and convoy formations and got 'em moving in the right direction at COMEX.
-Fixed the 1/3 rule deal on the second raid. You get the kitchen sink now
-Added a regiment of Backfires on the Kola and coordinated their TOT with some of the Badgers, creating a multi-axis threat
-Upped the difficulty and complexity levels from 2 to 3 based on changes

I may wind up tweaking this scenario a little more in the future, but I'm working on some other stuff as well at the moment. Give it a whirl! Long live Ed Morris!

Agiel -> RE: 1985 Transatlantic Convoy Duty (6/27/2015 10:09:57 PM)

The Yantar IMINT satellites aren't able to provide real-time intelligence, as they take photos of pre-briefed locations and drop the photographic film back to earth rather than transmitting the imagery remotely. Might I suggest using the US-A RORSATs instead? Or putting attack submarines nearer to the convoy at the start of the scenario (or better yet, WP-aligned ships masquerading as neutral shipping)?

Otherwise I'm having fun. The Backfire raids are certainly hair-raising.

Hi JMARSO

I know this is an old thread, but I haven´t gotten around to this scen until now (so many scen´s so little time, not at all any criticism of the scen).

I realised i played an old version so most of my points have all ready been fixed. One thing though.

The soviet sub detected event should be unit specific and one time only. I managed a score of 119930 because the sub detected event kept firing until I sank the target.

Otherwise I like the scen.

Hope this is usefull.

Søren

PS. I added a Seawolf sub in the end to kill the last Victor just demonstrate my point.
