ORIGINAL: JeffK Got me trench dug already. What are you celebrating?? Surely this is a day to remember those who gave their lives in the service of your country. Have a Beer and a Barbie but remember what the day is for. Jeff...Some of us "celebrate" the lives of folks we remember who served with us, or our relatives who served. We cannot take for granted those kind, departed souls who gave the ultimate sacrifice and lost touch with this mortal coil. Kind of like a traditional wake. For my uncle George Sortwell, killed on the Rhona around Thanksgiving,1943. For my father,(then) Lt Robert F Clark,Omaha Beach,1st wave(survived), later, 45th ID(Korea) For Uncle James C Sortwell,Guadalcanal,The Russels, New Guinea.. For Uncle Warren Sortwell,ALCAN highway and Patton's 3rd Army.. For Uncle Ed Hudson, 9th A.F.,British Isles.. For my Grandfather Robert H Clark, Chateau Thierry.. For my Great Grandfather George Smith,19th Indiana,(Iron Brigade),buried with his unit at Gettysburg For my Great,Great Grandfather William A Clark, Cpt Tom Scott's 1st Indiana Mounted Riflemen(Rangers),Tippecanoe For my Great,Great,Great Grandfather Charles Douthit,Pennsylvania Sharpshooters,Valley Forge Of course, I too served and I choose to avoid my brothers in arms like a plague. Some of you understand.
