Memorial day ! Yes !! Chilton County peaches are early this year. Silver King corn is early too. Kelley (TomLabel knows what I’m talkin about) Hoo Daddy !!! So a slab or two of baby backs on the barbie. Some Silver King too, along with local asparagus. A peach sauce from Chilton County for the asparagus. Chopped peaches and some mandarin oranges from Escambia County, along with chopped Baldwin County pecans in a wine/Dijon vinaigrette with crumbled Gorgonzola over spring greens, heavy on the arugula. Neighborhood vets are all coming. My GF is up from Venezuela and is staying over for a week. Ohhh mi Corazon !!! I hope we don’t get arrested for violating the noise ordnances. What are ya'll doing to celebrate? Ciao. JWE

Got me trench dug already. What are you celebrating?? Surely this is a day to remember those who gave their lives in the service of your country. Have a Beer and a Barbie but remember what the day is for.

Gotta' work this weekend, otherwise on Monday I'm going to the Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock to pay respects to a friend. When my day comes, I'll have my bony, (Army) retired carcass buried there. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend, folks.

I may drive down tonight!!![:D] Silver King is righteous especially when creamed![&o] And you can never go wrong with those peaches!! Maybe some black eye peas too? But those can always wait for New Years!! Are those madarins from the Pcola area by chance? Citrus is in the process of making a big comeback in the panhandle area now that there have been advances in creating ways of protecting the bark from frost which killed them out years ago. Farmers switched to pecans back then because of that so you are good to go local with those as well!! Looking forward to having some satsumas again as well!! The Orange Beach area was originally named that because of its orange groves. Will try to see some 167th TSC guys(1-167INF 4th Alabama)for Memorial Day if possible. Been at Hoover Met the last two evenings watching some good games!! Just got home tonight leaving the FL ARK game soon after Bama was annihilated by Vanderbilt. [:@] I'll be in Pcola, Mobile, NO during the first week of June (which is week after next). Glad to know your in-country. I probably be in Mobile/Pcola area Sun-Tues before heading to NO. We're doing something we've never done before-but certainly should have. We're visiting Fort Snelling in Minneapolis for Memorial Day reflections and ceremonies. And we're taking the kids to see the National cemetery there as well.

We cannot take for granted those kind,departed souls who gave the ultimate sacrifice and lost touch with this mortal coil. Kind of like a traditional wake. Family just got back from planting flags at a local National Cemetery. We have a very old section, mostly Civil war vets who made it through and croaked in the latter 19th century. I always wonder what stories they could have told. Regards, Feltan

As I said the neighborhood vets are all coming. We have one war-2 vet just around the corner, a few more from Korea. Most are of my generation. This is year 4 and it's a kinda neighborhood tradition. The wives bring pot-luck, and the grand children and grand nieces/nephews get to play in the pool and listen to old farts tell lies to one another. We are here because we were there. Please don't diss us because we 'celebrate' Memorial Day. We know who we lost. Oh, God do we know.

Regards, Feltan We put out fresh flags for Revolutionary Graves. Lots of them around Philly...we do a very small slice, but our SAR chapter puts out over 1,000. All labeled and marked. My kids help, or did when they were kids. They know the story...one is active duty now, the other in the Corp of Cadets at VT (another groundpounder) or will be in a few scant weeks. Bless all the troops past and present.
