I have that game and a working commodore 64.

Yes: I am a pack rat. My walk in closet could be a museum for war gaming.

Wow, nice! I have to look for my C64 in my parents' cellar. I'm afraid they throw it away when moving to another home

You can download C64 emulators to play commodore games on your PC.
Just google "c64 emulator".

I used to run one on XP, not sure if they work on Win 7 though......

JocMeister -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (5/24/2015 4:31:39 PM)

C64 emulator? Blasphemy!

I still have my old C64. I start it up every 5th year or so and play "The Detective" and "Theatre Europe". [:)]

MrBlizzard -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (5/24/2015 7:59:37 PM)

Joc you're reallly great! [8D]

Big B -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (5/24/2015 11:20:18 PM)

I had that one too, and played the heck out of it too. I didn't know it was done by Gary Grigsby, I guess I never payed much attention to the authors of computer games back then.
My best friend, and oldest war-gaming nemesis, has my old C-64 (and his too) in working condition.

I had many hours of fun with this one back in the day.

wegman58 -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/1/2015 4:45:11 PM)

I never did C-64. I did have the old Guadalcanal campaign game - probably for a DOS Box (Possibly an Apple ][ +

TheElf -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/2/2015 1:21:43 AM)

Hang on to that old tech!! Some lady dropped off a bunch of computer parts from her garage after her husband passed and turns out there was an Apple 1 computer in that box... it sold for $200,000 and now the store is trying to track her down to give her a cut.

Reminds me of the story of the guy who dropped his wallet in the store....Store manager realized it, retrieved the wallet...and beat on his plate glass window to attract the wallets' owner as best he could....with a handkerchief!!

Nice to see you dropping by Elf..Glad you are safe..(Hope to think you have retired or gone commercial by now......)

Good to see Elf dropping by, as well. Elf doesn't like to toot his own trumpet, but some of the guys at Pensacola tell me that Lt. Commander Ian "ELF" Kibler is with the test and evaluation squadron VX-9, in bee-you-tee-ful downtown China Lake in the middle of the Mojave freakin desert. They think that's a pretty hot posting (pun intended) and some smart money thinks he's well on his way to a silver chicken.[8D]

Captain Elf! [&o][&o][&o] BZ on making the stuff the Navy buys "sailor proof"![:D]

geofflambert -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/4/2015 7:40:28 PM)

I had a Commodore and a TI-99/4a and a TI programmable scientific calculator. I don't know what I did with them. [:(] I got an IBM PC (with the unbelievable memory of 64k [:D]) like the first month it was out. Don't have that anymore either. An Epson dot matrix printer too. It worked. It was reliable. It wasn't pretty though.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/4/2015 7:42:28 PM)

Does anyone know how to make "Fighting Steel" work on Windows 7 or 8? I miss it so. I have to look at porn instead. [:(]

Gorn porn? [X(]

geofflambert -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/4/2015 8:29:37 PM)

Similar to lizards dropping there tails to escape, male gorns drop their (censored) if the female tries to hold on to them. That's ok, they grow back.

Now you tell me!!![:D] Oh, well mom threw out all my old baseball cards, I threw out all my old computers when the town started recycling them.[X(] All the day before I needed them.[:(] Such is life.[8|]

Fighting Steel worked fine on my windows 7 HP...I have not played it in 2 years but there was a site I downloaded a huge mod for it from which MIGHT have done something to make it work?..I just never had any issues with that great game.....

geofflambert -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/7/2015 2:52:38 AM)

Thank you very much, I'm going to work on that.

Footslogger -> RE: OT Archeology: the origins of witpae (6/8/2015 1:07:10 AM)

Wow! I had a working Commodore 128 and working Commodore Monitor and a working 1571 drive. It can go into C64 mode easily and I gave it away not too long ago.[sm=innocent0009.gif]
Nobody asked for it here so I gave it away. [:(]

My favorite games were mostly strategy games and some arcade. I can remember Europe Ablaze, Panzer Battles, Decision in the Desert, Sid Myers Pirates and Elite. Just to name a few.[8D]

I believe you have the map to Captain Kidd's treasure. Can I have it? I'll give you a nickel. [:)]

I had a 128, a 128D and 2 1571's used for work with GEOS (and a whole lot of play [;)] ). A buddy gave me a large box of disks with well over a hundred games in it. Like an idiot, I sold it all (ridiculously cheap) when I got my first 486/25 machine.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb..............

Summer Games, Winter Games, Leaderboard, Project Space Station, Zak McKraken, Red Storm Rising.

Dumb.....
