Bamo77 -> 2016 Falklands War Scenario (5/31/2015 1:06:33 PM)

Version 2 - With all feedback incorporated.
Aircraft types and numbers adjusted
No rearm missiles for Royal Navy as it is believed they do not have this ability (Argentine aircraft numbers reduced slightly to give better balance).
SSM's on mainland will now fire at enemy ships.
Messaging corrected - it is deemed a victory when Royal Navy Amphibious ships have been in Port Stanley area for 24 hours.

To be played from the British side.

Its May 2016 and the Argentinians have used the window between the Royal Navy receiving the lowest defence spending
budget in decades and before the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters are operational on the new Aircraft Carriers.

Can the Radar and Missile systems keep the Amphibious safe all the way to Port Stanley with the lack of and
air cover.

My first scenario - all feedback welcome.

Thx for this : I'm giving it a go!!

A tad busy at the moment so cannot playtest, but sounds interesting. Your message problem is easily solved. When creating the 'Action' be sure to fill the drop down in the message format for which side is supposed to receive the message. See Clip.

wild_Willie2 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (5/31/2015 9:49:32 PM)

Ok, am playing it now and I just ran out of missiles while downing the last enemy attack AC (although I just saw that there are about 6 enemy AC left for which I have no more missiles), you literally threw the kitchen sink at this TF. although I find it highly annoying that I need to babysit my AH64's in order to find an attack angle for them to knock out the enemy positions while staying out of range of the Argentinian air defenses. Maybe I should try this during the day??

Also your land based SSM missiles don't fire on my TF while they are in range and should be easily spotted by the Argentine ASW helicopters.

I also noticed that Wave Knight caries extra Sea Wolf missiles, I suppose that these can be used to replenish your TF? Then I need to find out how This works in order to beat this scenario with acceptable losses...

This scenario has some potential, but after downing exact 100 enemy AC I ran out of missiles (although I can replenish 32 more)....

W.

wild_Willie2 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 9:21:37 AM)

Ok, I replayed the scenario and most of it works BUT, the event that triggers the troops to land after spending 24 hours in the designated zone does not work and I cant get troops to land.

ojms -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 10:00:43 AM)

Hi,

Love the idea of the scenario!

I played this for a short time but soon found myself running low on SAMs, looking at the inventory for Argentina it's going to pretty impossible to achieve.

Only 22 A-4 in service, 4 Daggers, 6 Mirage III, 4 Mirage 5 and 1 KC-130. In regards to Navy aircraft there are only 11 SuperE, 4 P-3B and 2 S-2T.

In regards to the 707/707RC these are retired now, but there is a Learjet recon aircraft in the inventory which would be a suitable replacement.

Also Dagger B should be Dagger A, the B is the training version.

Also you might want to name the single unit airfields, Falklands is Mount Pleasant Airport and the northern mainland airfield is called Captain Jose Daniel.

Finally instead of setting the Navy ships to hold fire you can configure the WRA to only fire one missile at a time?

Keep up the good work!

ojms -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 10:41:31 AM)

Also it looks like the Argentina ships are engaging non-hostiles:

"21:49:16 - Weapon: Sea Dart Mod 0 #927 is attacking Air2 #1 with a base PH of 70%. PH adjusted for distance: 66%. PH adjusted for actual target speed (490 kts): 66%. Final PH: 66%. Result: 59 - HIT"

Bamo77 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 4:56:03 PM)

That's excellent - thanks for that !

Bamo77 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 5:28:05 PM)

Thanks for your feedback its very useful and I will adapt the next version.

The plan is to use your one attack submarine to take out the Argentine ships as much as possible and then use some
of the land attack capability Harpoon missiles to take out the Argentine SAM sites.
Then your Apache helicopters should be able to take out the AAA sites and the rest of the ground forces without
taking losses.

I am struggling to get the SSM sites to attack any ships so this is still a problem.
If you have any ides please let me know.

The Wave Knight does carry some extra Sea Wolf missiles and if you want to use them you can get your Type 23 Frigates
to use "Underway Replenishment" to restock some of their missiles. Right click on a single ship unit and select the
UNREP command. Wait a while and then the missiles will be replenished. I am not sure if the Royal Navy has this ability
at sea in real life though.

With regards to the troops landing I have not yet simulated that part of it. If you keep HMS Ocean in the
Port Stanley zone for 24 hours then this should give you enough victory points to win the game. I also need to work
on the scoring for aircraft shot down and ships sunk.

Thanks again for play-testing it for me.

Bamo77 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 6:13:26 PM)

Thanks for your feedback.

I have adjusted some of the aircraft as you suggest (reductions and changes to type) although I have kept the
numbers of the attack aircraft high to represent a hypothetical re-arming of the Argentine forces.

I know I can set the aircraft to only fire single missiles but if you do this the computer fires all of the long
range missiles first leaving you exposed. So you need to manage it yourself and use the Sea Wolf missiles to take
out the low flying threats conserving some of your Aster missiles.

I have managed to get all of the task force to Port Stanley with minor damage and about 10 air to air missiles left
so its not an impossible scenario.

Thanks again. I will keep working on it to ensure the second version is complete.

AlexGGGG -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/1/2015 10:08:40 PM)

I used manual allocation of SAMs, arrived on destination with 2 days to go, and did not know what else to do. Score 20 average. By the time I arrived, I was fully out of SAMs, down to CIWS guns. SAM restocking did not work for me - I was unable to UNREP SeaWolf missiles.

ojms -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/2/2015 6:53:46 AM)

The missiles on the resupply ship are Sea Wolf Block1 when they should be Block2

pandoraefretum -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/7/2015 9:27:20 PM)

I like this a lot (version 1). Manually firing the Seawolfs and Aster 15/30s is great fun.
My word Argentina have a lot of aircraft.. maybe one more Daring class ship for UK's Task Force ?

About to play version 2... what a great scenario... thanks!!

.Sirius -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (6/8/2015 1:30:43 PM)

Hi guys on the replenishment side for sea wolf missiles the VLS version of sea wolf cannot be replenished only a dockyard job

George Patton -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (7/3/2015 9:55:54 AM)

I'm playing it right now. Funny!
Question. In the scenario description you say:

The British have responded with another task force but its a shadow of its predecessor that sailed in 1982. For a start there are no aircraft carriers as there are no operational aircraft to fly from the 2 new Queen Elizabeth class carriers that the British have just built. Secondly only 1 submarine and 6 frigates & destroyers could be mustered to escort the amphibious task force.

In the OOB I have 2 Type 45 DDG and 3 Type 23 FFG. So, only 5 frigates & destroyers. Have you decided to modify the OOB in the version 2?

Dimitris -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (9/8/2015 12:59:39 PM)

Is this scenario ready for release?

Bamo77 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (9/19/2015 9:17:47 AM)

This is ready to play.
Please give me any feedback.
Don't forget to manage your SAMs carefully - they are limited in numbers.

Bamo77 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (9/19/2015 9:42:01 AM)

My apologies I decided to remain with just 2 Type 45 Destroyers and 3 Type 23 Frigates to more accurately match the Royal Navy availability numbers in 2016.

falcon2006 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (1/5/2016 5:16:17 AM)

Hi, I must say your creation is truly a inspiration to the scenario that I'm currently working with. My suggestion is that as you've already made a what-if for the Argentina army, why not make it more visional? For example, if Argentina receives ships and boats from China, they will receive aircrafts too, maybe JF-17s or cheaper fighters like J-7 late series. Then, if Argentina is strengthened, why not we also give UK navy some reinforcement? For example, the Franch navy joins the battle?

Bamo77 -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (1/9/2016 8:30:34 AM)

I like the idea - My original motivation for the scenario was to see how good the latest Royal Navy missile defence would be against a mix of aircraft types and generations. Also to see if the Royal Navy could actually project power that far from home without any air cover which they will have to do until about 2020. AS it turns out if you manage your missile magazines correctly you should be able to do this..........but only just.
I will look at what I can do with beefing up the Argentine air force and incorporating a French presence - or maybe make it a 2020 scenario and include the new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier with a limited air wing.
Leave it with me.

Hi, Bamo, nice to meet you, my email is jackharkness2014@yeah.net, hope for contacting you later. I got ideas of a future Argentina VS UK scenario.

pandoraefretum -> RE: 2016 Falklands War Scenario (1/11/2016 11:14:25 PM)

You guys carry on ; I look forward to more Falkland What-ifs !!
Since UK have 6 type 45s why not assign 3 to the task group ?

Hi, dude, I'm now working on a scenario which includes both Argentina, UK and France. The Argentina is equipped with Russian aircraft(like Su-35BM) and Chinese ships(mainly F-22P and converted MEKOs). The UK and France form an combined fleet with 4 type 45, 2 Horizon, 3 FREMM, 2 Queen Elizabeth, 1Mistral, 1 Ocean and some LPDs. I need some advices for the battle order of both sides. Also, if you have suggestions on the plot, please tell me.
