richlove -> I cannot figure out air group resizes (6/1/2015 3:13:04 PM)

I have VRF-2T that I'd like to max out as part of my training program. I cannot figure out the right combination of steps to get the resize to fire. The screenshot below implies to me that all conditions are met (the group is on Hornet, which is in port, supply in SD is > 2x required, and I've clicked the 'Resize to fit ship' text and punched in the max of 90 planes). I appear to have enough airplanes in the replacement pool.

I've tried several permutations - Hornet in a TF, at anchor, in the repair yard. The group moves to the carrier, the group moves to the AF in San Diego, punching in a number less than 90 -- all suggestions from old threads on the topic. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

That is a gorgeous map you are using!!..

GetAssista -> RE: I cannot figure out air group resizes (6/1/2015 5:24:54 PM)

As a JFB I usually do this sequence: remove all other airgroups from the ship (CV/CS), put ship in a TF in large port (one of home ones), put the resizing airgroup on ship, click yellow text until resize window pops up, type in max size, disband TF, ..., profit!

Resize is done immediately. Works every time. Don't know if replenishment groups for Allies behave differently though

In my experience, you can't resize the replenishment units.

jmalter -> RE: I cannot figure out air group resizes (6/1/2015 7:11:26 PM)

IIRC, I split some VRF groups into their ABC components, & was able to upsize them to 28 planes each.

Yes that is a great map. What map is it?

richlove -> RE: I cannot figure out air group resizes (6/2/2015 1:20:16 AM)

I cannot take any credit for the map; it's one of chemkid's. Look here - wow, he added more stuff!

Going off to try some more resizes, will report back.

OK! This worked for me, with an alternate group in PH. I haven't tested w/ a replenishment group, because the CVs I was planning to use are now in the shipyard @ SD.... but I got this to work w/ a VMSB group @ PH off of a CVE. Thank you!

Does it matter at all that you are set to No Replacements/No Upgrades?

No, it does not. Resizes go nicely with those settings for me

richlove -> RE: I cannot figure out air group resizes (6/3/2015 4:59:49 PM)

One thing I noticed: when I resized the VMSB group, it did not pull airplanes from the pool to fill it up. Does the resize check whether you have sufficient airplanes available?

It does not. You have to manually fill (or upgrade) them.

Interesting. I'll have to try this. With the VRF units in their complete form, I haven't been able to resize. I've tried multiple times.

Why would you want to do that, let the AI decide what to do about replacements? Just sayin', never let that AI pull aircraft without explicit permission. I don't do that for active units, let alone training squadrons. Mete out the planes when they are really needed.

Don't let the game engine make decisions for you.

Once you do all this you need to run the turn. The resize will occur then and you will get a message to that effect IIRC.
