VPaulus -> Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (6/9/2015 11:48:49 AM)

For running Scourge of War: Waterloo on Windows 8 / 8.1 you'll need to do the following:

1. Open the game installation folder
(default) C:\Matrix Games\Scourge of War Waterloo

2. Find a file named SOWWL.exe. Select it and with the right mouse button select Properties. Press the Compatibility tab. Tick the Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 7. Press Apply/OK.

Nico165b165 -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (6/9/2015 12:08:59 PM)

Thanks, without compatibility mode the game loads on Windows 8 but every graphic is messed up.

Would be better if a patch could correct it in game though (and Windows 10 is coming)

Pawsy -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (6/9/2015 2:41:47 PM)

thanks for the work around

WHLNH -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (6/9/2015 5:12:00 PM)

Win 7 compatibility did not work for me. There are black boxes around troops and boxes around trees.

WHLNH -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (6/9/2015 5:15:38 PM)

BUT win7 compatibility and run as administrator did fix it!

ulsterandy -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (6/14/2015 12:09:12 PM)

Ok I had the black squares as well had to so set the comp to windows 7, it now runs fine. Is is bad for a brand new game that does not run in windows 8? and 10 is out soon as well.

zakblood -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (6/14/2015 12:14:47 PM)

ulsterandy please read this thread and enjoy the game, thanks for buying

settings used are,

The graphics settings for AntiAliasing and for Anisotropy must be set directly in the SOWWL.ini file. The default location for this file is My Documents/SOWWL. This file can be edited with Notepad or any other text editing program. The text to look for is:

[Initialization]
AntiA=2
Anso=2

but can go as high as 8 in both on this pc in use, looks great, plays as fast as anything, moves like a dream and looks crisp and lovely tbh, no errors in windows 10 what so ever, good job everyone

zakblood -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (11/21/2015 10:06:44 AM)

draw distance set to half way, for all objects

gone down to the deck for a low down view of some cav units approaching, camera angles and speed is as good as any game tested, fluid and very easy to use interface, UI is very well done, speed on a medium level pc and 2gb card is well impressed, may look now at a high end test pc with a 8gb card and more cpu power and see how much better or different it looks tbh.

zakblood -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (11/21/2015 10:19:48 AM)

doesn't matter on a medium level of pc and video card either, if a few 100 troops or a few 1000 are in play, game looks and plays well, with no slow down noticed, images blend in well and menu items can easily alter settings for high, medium and low use

last one btw, just pointing out that game works fine for windows 10 users [X(]

jwhip -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (1/8/2017 6:45:12 PM)

I recently purchase Waterloo, downloaded it, set compatibility to Windows 7 and run as administrater.
the main menu comes up fine but when play the game is selected the screen goes blank.

Suggestions?

zakblood -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (1/8/2017 6:49:20 PM)

have the pre requites been installed with the game?

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4164455

windows 10 guide, but same process tbh

RHamper -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1 Compatibility (1/11/2017 12:00:09 PM)

Odd, I'm running the game on a laptop with Win 10 which was upgraded from a Win7 set-up and I didn't have to change any settings. SoW was originally installed when I had the Win7 set up. I am running it through Steam (online and offline). Does that make a difference?

bosbes -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (9/7/2017 5:49:20 PM)

Have I think similar issue; upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. Since then, game and menu screen are 'enlarged' and is unplayable.[&:]

zakblood -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (9/7/2017 5:54:27 PM)

none of it should make any difference as long as you follow the above guide posted on the top of this thread

bosbes -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (10/8/2017 6:31:08 PM)

Have been out for week. I tried the above solution and it symply doesn't work. I still get one quarter of the game screen in enlarged version. Tried the properties solution many times, but no change. What am I missing?

zakblood -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (10/8/2017 6:57:24 PM)

with out a report i have nothing to go on other than guesswork tbh

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

sfbaytf -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (12/18/2019 6:02:36 PM)

Have you tested this on the latest versions of Windows 10? I purchased this and the DLCs this morning figuring something being sold would be Windows 10 compatible, but even after uninstalling, doing a clean install and applying all of the suggested work arounds it sill kicks me out to the desktop when loading the tutorial or any scenario. Its get to loading battle evens then the music stops and kicks me out to desktop.

I'm sitting on unplayable game and DLC. I'm hoping to get a refund.

RebBugler -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (12/18/2019 11:49:19 PM)

Could you please post the log file after a crash: Documents/SOWWL/sowwl.log

sfbaytf -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (12/19/2019 12:31:41 AM)

Here you go. Hopefully I can get this to work. It installed with no errors...I installed on my desktop as well as a laptop to see it it would run, but both failed

sfbaytf -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (12/19/2019 2:03:13 AM)

I'm now up and running. Lots of confusing threads about this and the fact Matrix hasn't posted the 1.02 update in the My Page Section has created a mess. They need to post the 102 for download and make it clear that if you do not install the 102 update before the 103 the game will crash...

RebBugler -> RE: Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility (12/19/2019 6:31:59 AM)

Good to hear.

I tried to get the installation issue fixed with Matrix and they said they'd look into it, that was months ago. Anyway, here's our discussion thread concerning this issue:
http://www.norbsoftdev.net/forum/nuts-and-bolts-waterloo/78697-more-reported-issues-with-patch-v103-and-fixes

Bottom line, as you know now, the fix is to install all three versions in order: 101,102, and 103.
