I'm a new player of the SOW series and I am having some serious doubts because the behaviour of regiments in battle just does not ring true! For example: A brigade is ordered into line, this looks right until contact with the enemy when individual regiments start to restlessly wheel in all directions breaking up the line and ending up in a real mess!
As battle goes on you get tangles of regiments crossing each other at all angles all order lost.

Now was this realistic formation behaviour of a Napoleonic battle? Once a line is formed it should stay formed. It would be very hard to shift 100's of men during battle making them pivot at the centre axis every few minutes. If a flank is threatened then the end regiment should refuse a flank by pivoting from the end attached to the main line formation.
The same is true of a single regiment refusing its flank by companies.

The basic pattern for the time was to form your line roughly parallel to the enemy's line, he would be doing the same, and concentrating on delivering fire while keeping your line intact - not have individual regiments break formation by shifting every minute! You've got to imagine what it takes to move masses of men: the inertia of large formations - they are not as instantly responsive in real life as they appear to be in this game.

I understand the AI can be modded, I hope I can make regiments stay in formation, any tips will be welcome!

Yes it is possible, a modder eventually can eventually also reduce to the minimal the battalion reactivity

ok.There doesn't seem to be any modding tools available despite the product description saying it has a fully moddable AI. Where do I start?
