kaburke61 -> [FIXED AGAIN B678.14] ASW Aircraft unable to line up on target (6/12/2015 5:26:08 PM)

Hey Again,

I noticed when I was having trouble getting that one helo (Brighton #1) to attack the
enemy sub (It says you have fixed that problem - thx!), I had also noticed that the ASW
aircraft was seeming to have a problem getting lined up on the target.

I made a test to see if there is a problem. It doesn't seem to fly far enough
away to get lined up for the next pass, so it's constantly turning this way and that.

Also, I noticed once it is prosecuting a target, it didn't seem to want to throw anymore bouys when later it
loses contact with the target.

Check it out and see if everything is OK.

Thanks for reporting. We'll take a look.

Mike

Also if they are able to line up after long time of looping, they still dont use weapons. Something is off still.

I have done more tests, I believe this has not been fixed yet. Is anyone else unable to make ASW aircarft do anything useful after finding a contact?

This report is not very useful on its own...
- Build?
- Save?
- What was the expected behavior and what was the demonstrated behavior?

Issues with ASW aircraft have come up quite often. I have seen it myself, but I have found that sometimes they drop, sometimes they don't, and its hard to tell what effects the time taken before dropping as sometimes it can be quite a while. I usually just do a manual bearing-only-launch which forces an immediate drop.

We know, and it's been one of the focus point for the RCs, which is why we need to know exactly the conditions under which the problem is reported as persisting. If e.g. someone reports it's still problematic and in reality it's because he's still using RC3 while the problem has been fixed in RC4, this is not very useful to us is it?

Yes, sorry about that.

I started the scenario I have been playing from beginning, and this time the ASW aircraft actually got the subs killed.

I observed, that IF they can get a good position for the sub, they will attack it and it works. So maybe that problem is fixed.

BUT most of the time they will lose the sub, because after spotting it, they stop dropping bouys and start circling. I guess this is a different problem. My first reaction would be to drop a buoy right on top of the sub first and maybe some additional ones around it. The AI just doesn't do anything to localize the sub for attack run. I think this might need tweaking.

I used build 678.13, save is attached. The save game starts right after the first sub is found, and additional subs will be found soon after that.

I don't think I have tried it since 1.07, but otherwise, with respect to getting a demonstrative save I have trouble repeating the problem reliably, sometimes the aircraft drops as expected, sometimes it drops after a while, sometimes it seems not to want to at all and Im not sure what conditions affect it.

To be honest, at this point I have put it down to designed behavior regarding veterancy, targeting uncertainty and OODA loops.

Wait, you haven't tried it since 1.07, when the devs have been trying to fix it throughout the 1.08 release candidates? So what is the point of the report? They acknowledged they were working on it in 1.08...in all four RCs.

Actually I didn't make the report...

I just popped in to mention a detail brought up in previous discussions that I thought was pertinent, in case the OP wasn't aware of said previous discussions, or that it is an issue already being looked at.

But thank you for your helpful input.
