roy64 -> AI re-supply (6/13/2015 9:05:33 PM)

I've just tried the the main Waterloo battle as the French & set all commanders to AI control. I just watched the AI doing a good job on the battle field apart from one very important thing, never once did I see the AI try to re-supply infantry or artillery. The French guns went silent very quickly. [:(]

Is there some settings that makes the AI re-supply automatically. Or do I have to keep checking every unit one by one to keep them re-supplied?

Pawsy -> RE: AI re-supply (6/13/2015 9:38:25 PM)

I have seen units infantry go and auto resupply. Not the arty but they seem to have plenty of ammo. Were they out of ammo? When I checked mine the had zero left

roy64 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/13/2015 9:47:54 PM)

Not sure about the infantry most were down to about 15 rounds per unit, but all the artillery that had been in combat were never re-supplied when they ran out.

mitra76 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/13/2015 9:59:25 PM)

Ammo wagon follow automatically their leader and refill all the friend which need it in a range of more of less 200 yards. On the other side infantry without ammo if the officer is not TCed will try to reach the nearest ammo wagon if possible. The problem with the scenario i think is that all the french artillery of grand battery is under Desalle with only 1 ammo wagon under him, so if he remain far and static respect the long line of guns the ammo wagon cannot approach the guns, perhaps in this scenario a ammo wagon (perhaps with less ammunition each) for battery should be better?

roy64 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/13/2015 10:11:13 PM)

I was thinking the same thing, if I remember right there are three ammo wagons near the grand battery that never move. But it's not just the grand battery it's every artillery unit involved in the battle, once they use their ammo that's it, they never get re-supplied.

mitra76 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/14/2015 7:41:11 AM)

I'll think to something for the next patches for the AI of ammo wagon for this situations, I have a idea but I must verify if it works well. Thank for the feedback

Glad to help.

I'm really enjoying the game now thanks. [sm=happy0065.gif]

Hi,

Just encountered the same thing with a simple division size single play sandbox game. My two artillery brigades where standing right next to the supply wagon and weren't automatically supplied. Also when I order single units to resupply the sometimes walk up to the wagon but don't get resupplied and just stand there. And if I order a whole regiment to resupply (this is all about artillery) then they all walk to the supply wagon but hardly any get resupplied and afterwards they just stand there.

Yeah game is pretty cool.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll check the problem

I'm having this with Arty in campaign too.

Between battles too. I reckon the Arty, like the infantry should auto resupply before battle to save a chore.

mitra76 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/15/2015 9:22:18 PM)

Just place the ammo wagon directly behind the artillery and it should refill the nearest guns, just verified with the scenario 10. In any case is correct, some of more automatic should be done; I'll think something for the ammo wagon AI

Marvin Pontiac -> RE: AI re-supply (6/15/2015 9:41:29 PM)

I'm doing a sandbox single player game where I play as Captain Bernard with about 8 artillery units under me. The game is played on Corpse vs Corpse size so I'm just a little part of the battle. After playing a while and resupplying my artillery units by hand (by right clicking their flag and choosing resupply) I notice that a lot of the other artillery units (under command of other captains) aren't firing anymore. Checking their weapon panel I see their long range ammo is zero. Some do appear to be firing though and still have ammo. Weirdly enough the captain next to me has a slightly higher score/grade than me but most of his units have been empty of ammo for a while. When I say a while I mean that I have had to resupply all of my units about 3 times now.

Pawsy -> RE: AI re-supply (6/16/2015 9:36:56 AM)

just looked at mine - must resupply the cannons - whoops

mitra76 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/16/2015 10:29:48 AM)

No need to press the resupply button for artillery, just leave the wagon a behind the cannons a little, all those in range will be resupplied automatically

con20or -> RE: AI re-supply (6/16/2015 1:38:01 PM)

I like to move the wagon slowly behind an artillery line and they all get extra ammo that way. Use waypoints (alt) and set a wagon going from battery to battery.

ulsterandy -> RE: AI re-supply (6/17/2015 11:09:25 AM)

I sent out my Lt Cav to go and nick the French Sup Wgs, this help solve my none firing problem. Only way I could take on a Inf Div with my Lt Cav Div.

Did you find a fix for the out of ammo situation?

mitra76 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/21/2015 4:25:17 PM)

I'm working on a additional logic for the Ai of ammo wagons when static to search far artillery friend out of ammo in order to reach them directly.

ulsterandy -> RE: AI re-supply (6/22/2015 7:24:50 AM)

Ok I like the Idea of having your Supply wag's going looking for Arty and other units out of Ammo. As in a big game you loose track where all are. Can I take it that all Allies supply wag's will do the job no matter who they are? that is British will do Dutch and Visa Versa Prussian British etc. I know when I get French Supply wag's they do the job.

con20or -> RE: AI re-supply (6/22/2015 10:49:27 AM)

The Dutch are part of a British Corps so I would think so.

For the Prussians - to be honest I have no idea about Allied ammo access- there should be far more Prussian ammo wagons near a Prussian unit than those belonging to others allies as there is a wagon for each division. They are on the same overall side so I think the ammo should be available to all Allied forces but don't quote me on that, I'd need to check it out.

Ammo wagons refill always friend troops (same side) when near; the routine I'm testing will move the wagon only for the requirements of the artillery of the same group of wagon (usually the battery of the same division).

roy64 -> RE: AI re-supply (7/19/2015 6:32:19 AM)

Has this been fixed in the patch or is it unfix-able?

mitra76 -> RE: AI re-supply (7/19/2015 8:20:34 AM)

The patch released is the beta patch of first week after the release. I have already done the routine and it is in test with other changes to the AI, in what patch it will be released it will depends from the priorities for the various patch releases (AI changes requests more tests that other kind of correction, because a problem can appear 1 time on 100 battle).

Consider that it is not a fix but a new AI logic, it doens't request changes in the hardcoded code so every modder can make own version.

jjnuk -> RE: AI re-supply (7/19/2015 12:12:44 PM)

Playing as Wellington and Napoleon's grand battery has given up firing I assume due to not resupplying.

roy64 -> RE: AI re-supply (7/19/2015 12:24:20 PM)

Yes it is, you will have to resupply them all your self.[&:]

jjnuk -> RE: AI re-supply (7/19/2015 6:58:07 PM)

I am the Allied side and i have to resupply Napoleons grand battery by chasing enemy supply wagons into the artillery lines. Napoleon must be bored with supplying his own guns.

roy64 -> RE: AI re-supply (7/19/2015 7:26:27 PM)

It's a sad state of affairs when you have to do that.[:D]

onapthanh -> RE: AI re-supply (8/1/2015 5:54:44 AM)

I aslo set up this game and now the main Waterloo battle as the French. I like this game. thank for all

roy64 -> RE: AI re-supply (8/1/2015 10:09:05 AM)

what has you liking the game got to do with the AI's inability of re-supplying artillery?

mkeogh76 -> RE: AI re-supply (6/19/2016 2:32:37 PM)

This still appears to be an issue. Are AI controlled supply wagons supposed to move to and resupply depleted artillery units?

I was playing the French in the corps-sized "full" Quatre Bras battle. It's a three hour scenario with a battlefield featuring lots of open terrain- so decently positioned arty batteries can fire at length and relatively quickly run-out of long range ordinance. I had to repeatedly micromanage my supply wagons in order to get my guns back-up and firing. That's a pain, but I can handle it. However, what about the AI? How is it supposed to resupply its guns if the supply wagons are just meandering about following their division commanders?
