HowieWowie -> Scenario Difficulty and Complexity Ratings (6/17/2015 7:29:20 PM)

I've decided to jump in and CMANO a try. I studied several of Baloogan's videos on the mechanics of game play and also ran through the tutorials. I decided to look for a low Difficulty and low Complexity scenario next and chose Brother Against Brother from the list. I gave it a try a couple of times but never made any headway. Actually my fighters were more or less destroyed by the enemy Flankers with their Adders which have a range of 50nm compared to the Pyhton 8nm.

So if this scenario is in fact a LOW DIFFICULTY scenario then I'm a real bozo. I can buy that its low Complexity given the limited number of units. I've looked for other AARs for Brother Against Brother but never found any.

How are the Difficulty ratings arrived at? Is there any reference? I suspect its up to the designer in which case they could mean almost anything.

Any suggestions for some more appropriate scenarios for a fellow like me would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi HowieWowie and welcome

I must admit that I havenīt played Brother vs. Brother, but from reading the forum, this is not the best scenario to start with
Adders vs. Pythons are a bit tricky as a beginner scenario.

A great little air to air scen would be DCA Mini-EX, featuring F-15īs and F-16īs against Mig-29īs and Su-27īs.
This is pretty evenly balanced.

For ASuW I would recommend Battle of Latakia.

Re. Scen complexity. This is completely up to the scen designer, but the level of player designed scenīs is very high. So if the scen description sayīs high complexity or difficulty, expect a pretty steep learning curve, but itīs worth the ride.

Hope this helped.

Søren

There's some discussion of Brother vs Brother in here: Command: Modern Air / Naval Operations >> The War Room >> Noob Question: Brother vs Brother

The key for me was to accept that the Colombian air force can't fight the Venezuelan Su-30s, so a plan like "achieve air superiority, then strike the rebel camp" won't work.

What worked for me was:

1) Locate the rebel camp.
2) Keep the Kfirs on the ground until the OV-10s are ready.
3) Launch the OV-10s. Keep them low to take advantage of terrain masking from the mountains near the border.
4) Launch the Kfirs. Keep them west of the mountains at low altitude to hide from patrolling Su-30s until the OV-10s are near their target.
5) Kfirs pop up to high altitude and attract attention while the OV-10s hit the rebel camp.

I lost one Kfir to an Adder, but was able to sandwich a F-16 between two flights of Kfirs and shoot it down.

Two beginner-level scenarios that come with CMANO are Battle of Chumochin Chan (naval gunnery in Korea) and Wooden Leg (Israeli air raid on PLO HQ in Tunis). Wooden Leg is a good introduction to air-to-air refueling.

I'll give it a another try with your tactics. I had assumed that a low Difficulty rated scenario would have followed the more conventional tactic of air superiority and then strike. I'll take the difficulty ratings with a big grain of salt in the future.

Difficulty ratings are set by scenario designer as rough guideline and not determined by game. Thus, sometimes difficult scenario can have low difficulty rating just because designer forgot to set it.
