smartspick -> AI's Competency (6/18/2015 11:16:25 AM)

Greetings,

I am considering buying this game. I owned Scourge of War: Gettysburg and 2nd Manassas. I was not impressed with the AI in those games however. I play most SP though on occasion Multiplayer. I am a busy professional so SP makes more sense with my schedule.

My question is... How is the AI in this game? Is it solid? If it is I will buy it now. If not then I may have to wait. Can anyone let me in on the AI's competency if you have played the game?

Thank you.

The ai is improved alot, but it's the same type of ai, if you didn't like gettysburg, you probably won't like this either

playing it live it seems to look ok, not had any massive funny looking stuff happen so it seems ok for AI and never will be as good as any human, but most aren't anyway and it's not meant to be either i'd guess

Play a division or brigade and it plays rather well. If you command every single unit then yeah all ai's are walkovers that way. I've always enjoyed the ai's of norb's games from 2nd manassas on. I don't play at army level command though. I've always just taken a division or brigade of the division or an artillery detachment or one calvary regiment. Had great times. Best game out there if you don't micromanage every single unit and command.

AI often creates some chaos without beeing punished for that.
Units crossing each other quite often.

They've always done that since the first game. It doesn't make a difference. The ai is pretty good if you just don't micromanage everything.

I think it's worse (centers of units crossing, overlapping) than in the ACW-games, but at least not notable better.

usually boils down to inexperience of commander with new engine. This game requires an amount of time dedicated to understand its complexities and current shortfalls.

Once understood....

awesomeness *8

But the AI side does it too, so its not just the inexperience of the human player

How about you give us a list of all those shortfalls that we need to understand? I'm not sure they are in the manual...

Thanks!

If you are doing what the AI is doing then you need a LOT of experience. [:D]

James - wasting our time with this guy. He doesn't represent the devs, as far as I can tell.

Buy it folks it's one of the best tactical strategy games out there. Don't let one lil maneuvering graphic keep you from buying a great game. I'll stake my "hate everything" reputation on it. [:'(]
