Mgellis -> [RELEASED] Uncle Mark's Tutorials - 3 - Yorktown in the Gulf of Sidra, 1985 -- new beta for testing (6/25/2015 7:01:03 PM)

Another beta for testing. This one is a simple patrol with the player in command of one cruiser.

As always, I am interested in any suggestions, comments, etc. people may have. In addition to whether or not this is a good scenario (and whether everything is working properly), I am also looking for feedback on how to make it a better tutorial. Is the scenario itself a good example of various aspects of the game? Are the comments informative, helpful, idea-provoking, etc.

Thanks in advance! I hope people enjoy the scenario.

Nice, quite understandable.  Managed to get my Helo shot down[:(] but besides that all good.  Was sort of expecting some VPs and a message at the end of the game because I stayed in the Patrol Zone, that's my only suggestion.

Good one

Finished it, that was a nice mission, very manageable. Tried to lure one ship in and got hit with a couple of 30mm rounds before getting out of firing range, but after blowing it up with a harpoon missle it was totally worth it. My 120mm cannons seemed to miss a lot though. It was an interesting touch to disable the CIWS one one side of the ship, made me constantly point my ship into incoming danger :)

Don't mess with the Yorktown. Killed damn near everything once they started shooting at me. Took 0.6% additional damage from some 20 mike-mike. But only a Minor Victory?

I used a somewhat different scoring method for this one. Instead of getting points for killing enemies, you get maximum points for hovering the helicopter over the Foxtrot for about fifteen minutes and then keeping the Yorktown in the patrol area for the rest of the mission. (In theory, the idea is that you're just showing the Libyans you can go where you want; the intent was not to shoot at anyone and so even though it becomes necessary to shoot, you don't get points for it.)

Did you fire on the submarine before you got a message about having kept the helicopter over it long enough?

Primarchx -> RE: Uncle Mark's Tutorials - 3 - Yorktown in the Gulf of Sidra, 1985 -- new beta for testing (6/30/2015 12:30:21 PM)

No, I kept the helo over the sub until told we had gotten the message across. I then cruised in the mission box, returning to kill the Foxtrot once hostilities had been opened by the Libyans (a minesweeper opened fire on Yorktown).

Hmmm...okay, let me take a look at it. I probably just set up one of the Events wrong. Thanks.

Version 2 uploaded with a few tweaks. Thanks to everyone who has commented, offered suggestions, etc. so far.

Many thanks - another great mission.

Useful for learning about patrols, WRA, threat detection (and decisions).

Some tense moments... a trail of missiles heading towards me, Libyan planes circling above (lucky to be left alone), in the end destroyed 3 ships and 2 planes that were a direct threat. I think Washington made the point but avoided a war !

Thanks
Chris

I recently (2 days ago) made the same experience as Primachx - a minor victory "only". I got the "helo message" and after they attacked me I killed everything in range.

Also I had an issue with the weapon release controls, which had nothing to do with the scenario. I switched global and unit settings (Doctrin, ROE) to "HOLD" but my helo being on an ASW patrol just ignored my orders and sank the Foxtrot - before hostilities began...
