What is the game mechanism by which halftracks protect units ? Can't seem to interpret what the numbers mean.

Kaldadarnes -> RE: Halftracks (6/30/2015 5:56:56 AM)

From memory, mechanism is that if your infantry unit gets hit then there is a chance c.50%( I think) that the half track will take the hit instead. As they have good defense vs infantry this can really improve your infantry' survival prospects.

Ormand -> RE: Halftracks (7/13/2015 12:40:33 AM)

Kaldadarnes has it right. The actual mechanics of the protection can be seen in the editor. Look at the Halftrack SFT, and go to the Prevent List Property Sheet. Here there is a list of units that the Halftrack will "protect": Infantry, Soft Mobile, Artillery, and Armor. All with a 50% chance and a priority of 10 (meaning that they have equal priority). If successful, the Halftrack will take a hit for the unit it can protect. To the right, you will see the number of MaxPrvPointsUsed and MaxPrvPointsGiven. The first specifies the number of hitpoints the unit can "give" to the units it protects, while the second is the number of hitpoints it can accept. The Halftrack can give up to 20 hitpoints, since it can carry 20 Rifle, this makes sense. But it receives none. So, to make this work, you also have to go back to the Rifle SFT, and in the Prevent List Property Sheet, you will see MaxPrvPointsGiven=1, which is needed in order to receive the protection.
