Kraft -> Runtime CTD (7/15/2015 2:09:01 PM)

From my Steamhub discussion

The requested Dxdiag file is attached

Denniss -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/15/2015 2:46:59 PM)

Drivers look OK, can't really comment on en-/decoders. Have you already tried the K-Lite Codec Tweak tool?
Another issue might be the almost completely filled C: drive - cleanup the drive to get some more space back

Helpless -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/15/2015 2:47:11 PM)

Thanks. So far it looks like a compatibility issue between sound drivers and direct sound (old) used by the game.

Btw, do you have music enabled when it is crashing?

Yes I tried that. I also tried (later) MicrosoftFixit Codec which actually found a problem and removed the broken codec but the game still CTDs because of the Runtime error. I have ~10GB of free space on C so I think safegames etc shouldn't get into problems here, especially since it also crashes without autosave.

Yes music is on. The game works fine If I rename the sound folder under Dat.
I have updated my Realtek HD Audio drivers today to see if it fixes it, before that I used the ones that came with my PC from 2012 or something.

On another note, I've uninstalled VLC and everything associated with it, which has done nothing so far. I'll try the same with Windows Media Player because I might have installed some random codecs years ago to make it compatible with some files before I switched to VLC.

Nope that did nothing too.

Denniss -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/15/2015 5:31:03 PM)

AFAIR VLC does not harm any system as it only uses local en/decoders it's shipped with, it does neither install nor use Windoze system en/decoders.

What I mean is it if you try to set music level to 0 and leave just sound fx volume.

Kraft -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/15/2015 7:58:57 PM)

Crashes too.

VPaulus -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/16/2015 12:48:29 AM)

I've reencode the sound files and have pmed you with a download link.
Delete the sound files in the game sound folder, unzip the downloaded file and copy the extracted files to the same sound folder.
I don't have much hope, but who knows...

Denniss -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/16/2015 7:48:06 AM)

Another option is to dL the most recent K-Lite Codec pack to hopefully replace the broken Codec.
Always a mystery to me how a simple .WAV playback may get broken despite out-of-the-box support by Windows since ages

Kraft -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/16/2015 8:02:56 AM)

:( the new files don't make it work either

I'll try that Denniss

Helpless -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/16/2015 9:04:44 AM)

That's not that simple as it might look. Game libraries are quite old and may not handle all the newest drivers/codecs correctly. I was able to identify several crashes in WITW, but it is not repeating for me in WITE. Some months ago I created a version with newer dx library, but it got lost due to the HDD failure on my laptop.

Andreas , are you getting crashing during your movement phase? If yes, can you try to repeat it? What is the most common situation when it is crashing (battle, unit movement, air action, etc)?

Thanks.

Kraft -> RE: Runtime CTD (7/18/2015 9:54:13 PM)

It seems that installing the latest K-Lite pack fixed my issues, I've been able to finish the tutorial a couple of times so far without crashes, which was not possible before. I'll try one of the bigger missions and see if it stays that way.

Helpless,
my game crashed only at the end of the logistic phase (that's what the little log said in the top right), after having calculated the turn. It would crash before the safegame text showed up. I never crashed in a different situation and it happened almost every 2nd turn.

jfk1978 -> RE: Runtime CTD (8/1/2015 12:22:16 PM)

Same for me.
Runtime error and crash to desktop when i try to save.
Game unplayable.

jfk1978 -> RE: Runtime CTD (8/3/2015 7:02:40 PM)

In the meantime it seems to be solved.
I download and install K lite pack like kraft do.
Thank you!
