Steelwarrior7 -> Any summary of all hints for a new player for Japan (7/16/2015 9:23:17 PM)

Is there any?
What mods are recommended?
What settings are recommended?
Any campaign/scenario where I can start at 37 and play untill46 - first fighting the Chinese?

Look in the War Room forum listed at the top of this forum for some good reading. To start out you can read my Japanese Production Primer here

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3329605&mpage=1&key=

If this is your time as Japan, I would play the stock Scenario 1 as Japan. You could also read my WarGamer article that talks about some of the mods, like the art work ones as an example, located here. The section discussing mods is about halfway down in the article.

http://www.wargamer.com/Article/3490

All Scenarios (and mods) start Dec 7 or 8 1941. If you want anything with an earlier start you need to play a different game [:(]

However, if you do well as Japan you can play into '46 if you want but very few games go that long as usually you will know the outcome long before '46.

Ok thanks - I am on it - really a learning experience but I love these kind of games ;-D

OK, do you mean the scenario 001 as a start?
Where do I find the R&D factories and how to repair them in the editor?

I would not bother with that right now. That suggestion was for playing against another person, not the Allied AI. I believe that the R&D setup is like that for Allied versus Japan AI play. So as a human playing Japan against an Allied AI, you do not need any additional 'help' [:)]

Just fire up Scenario 1 with the settings as they are. If you want to have the game start on Dec 8th and have everything that happened on the 7th modeled as what really happened then there is a scenario for that too.

Thanks - would still like to know ;-D

The Editor is located in the Scenario folder in the WitP AE folder. There are two version a 32 and a 64 bit. So use the 64 bit one if you can.

Once it is open you will see this screen. You need to select the Location tab highlighted below.

Then you need to search for a location, like Tokyo. You can do this by typing the first letters in the box with the 1 bedside it. In the example I typed 'to' and then scrolled down a bit to click on the name on the left side. This brings up everything at that location. You can see that no R&D factories are showing. To get them on the list you need to click on the tinny button highlighted that says '11-20'

You then have a list of all AC factories at Tokyo. The ones that are Disables are noted below.

To make them fully repaired Just put the same numbers in the Number column and then zero out the Dis column as shown below.

You have to do each location individually like this if you want to start with all the R&D fully repaired.

Once you have got things the way you want you need to save the file in a different 'slot' so you do not muck up the 'normal' scenario file you loaded to start the editing process.

Then you just use your 'new' file to start playing the first turn.

However, against the Allied AI, I would not do any of this but now you know how to do it [:)]

One thing never, ever, ever to do is to put your "magic move" T/Fs to patrol the area they "magic move" to.

My opponent isn't complaining though![;)]

Numdydar's economic primer is a good source but if you want a second read, look at the link in my signature.

cheers

Your's is a good 'What to do and how to do it' for Japan. But mine looks better [:)]

I also highly recommend reading through AARs on the forum to get an idea of what experienced players do - but I use them as ideas, not strict guides. Play around and have fun. But I'd recommend both Mike Solli and SqzMyLemon's AARs from the Japanese side - both do a great job explaining what they are doing and why, with great visuals as well.

Cool, thanks for the help - game is kinda overwhelming - War in the East looks like an arcade game compared to it - but I just love these games ;-D
