If i pass through a hex with mines in will the ships go through undamaged, as opposed to stopping in that hex?

Im almost sure Merak at the top of Java has mines in it but im trying to get through the gap between merak and oosthaven to the open sea beyond - if im going straight through the strait will i miss the mines?

transiting ships are subject to attack.

I have routinely used the local dutch minelayers to put down a minefield at Merak but my IJN opponents always seem to try to slip some subs through there...usually to their regret. Other good spots are the various straits through Malay Barrier at the other end of Java. It can help to keep the KB out of your backyard.

Even a CV can "sweep" mines.

Yes but the results aren't pretty [X(]

The counter to this is to permanently station a coastal minesweeper in the channel and constantly be on the lookout. BTW, any vessel with a rifleman can sweep mines... As I recall on the DDG I was on, it included two marksmen with rifles stationed on the bow.
