What is the best way -- hopefully graphic -- to see the supply range of your formations? I seem to be routinely outrunning my supply in the early days of the German offensive and I'm not sure of what I should be looking at to know when to stop my panzers' forward progress. For some reason I thought I had seen a graphic display of my supply range, but now I can't find this and think I was mistaken about it. Failing a graphic display, what is it exactly that you can use to deduce the point at which you begin losing MPs?

If you click on the HQ of a unit you will see the units attached to it highlighted. Blue is good, red means those units are out of supply range. You can also use the "Toggle Units Isolated, far from railhead, receiving beachhead supplies" too. Turn it on by clicking it, or shift-o. The icon is just to the left of "Toggle Factory Locations" on the Map info tab.

It gets tough because a unit can be in supply, but still receive basically no supplies as it's right on the very edge of where the available trucks can send it.

Yeah, that's what I'm struggling with. I feel like I've got my HQ within 25 hexes of a railhead and its units within 5 hexes of the HQ (and within the MP requirements) but I'm at a good distance and supply isn't coming through. I know it's a formula involved, but I was hoping there was something that calculated that for you. As it is it seems to be more of an art or a feel for the supply grid.

I will check out the highlighting of attached units; I hadn't noticed that yet for some reason. Thanks for the tips.

i air drop supplies to supplement when i'm at the end of the supply line. What about your trucks, is there enough. I've struggled with this also, but i getting the hang of it slowly. Also weather can effect how much gets through i believe.

Glad to see my tutorial helped. I wrote them mostly as a way to learn the mechanics better myself. There's no better way to learn than to try and teach someone else. I'll stick a link up here, I could use some feedback from the pro's.

Oh, TT I gather your highlighting tip referred to the red and blue highlighting of the subordinate unit on the map to show command range. I thought it was another metric to show supply on the HQ detail. I was aware of that, but even when "blue" my advanced units are getting little supply.

What I've noticed is that my units (in command) whose HQ is 14 hexes from a railhead are getting ca. 33-39 MPs, a unit whose HQ is 23 hexes from a railhead got 7. It also seems that the closer a unit is to its HQ it gets more MPs, so it's not just a case of being within 5 hexes of your HQ. Every hex of distance seems to decrease supply status. That makes sense, but it's difficult to gauge these effects without some bright line rule of thumb. It's not very meaningful if your units are in command of an HQ which is within 25 hexes of the railhead if you're only getting 7 MPs, which is practically the minimum.

I read the supply formulas in the rules and can appreciate the relationships involved, but I can't do the calculations on the fly while playing. That's why I wanted some graphic overlay of supply status applying the formulas. I'm not sure the supply effects should be so hidden in the game, although it certainly does reward greater game experience.

Hi all,

1. Capi.. there is graphic which shades the map according to supply distance delivery efficiency, basically 10 or less to railhead = good, then 10-25 = not so good, and 25+ "fagettaboutit". Forgot how to get this graphic up, maybe someone else..

My basic rule is over 15 you will have to use air supply. Note, if you use your Ju-52's all the time, then you wear them out, lower morale, have more damaged planes, etc.

To be super killer axis player you need to use HQBU and air supply.

Not an uber expert, but, for sure, everything (weather, terrain, leadership, etc) matters. And die rolls are (can be) all over the place. Fastest way to learn is to practice v AI, make saves, play a few turns, go back and redo, etc.

Charlie that kind of graphic you allude to sounds sort of what I had in mind. Some of these graphics seem to be hidden, like it appears only when a certain unit type is selected. If there is a supply shading graphic, that might prove very helpful indeed.

Your rule of thumb also sounds reasonable. It's pretty clear to me that it's counter productive to let your panzers advance to the end of their leash.

Try the rr display icon, top of page, display map. Must select vacant hex first. Don't have a save handy to try it out. There is something in the manual around the first few things about supply. :)

You can turn on the "Toggle Rail Damage" (the r key) and it will show you the extent of your rail network and show the extent of your supply network too.

Hmm.. I've looked at the Rail Damage screen before and I didn't feel it added much intel into supply. Perhaps because I use a map mod and the shading seems different than gray. Maybe I need to discern which shade on my map corresponds to the shades in the manual.

I think a poll of the experten as to the optimal and maximum ranges from a railhead would be useful. Certainly it seems you don't want to get much more than 15 hexes away, but in the shorter scenarios you've got time sensitive city objectives so there's some competing interests at play.
