Reloader62 -> Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/1/2015 11:43:49 AM)

Hello,
I now find myself not only unable to play my WITP AE due to graphics glitches in all text fields, but I am unable to post a support ticket.
I got an irritating message that I cannot post phone numbers, email addresses or other such nonsense.

This is driving me nuts!! How do I even report a problem ?

Frustrated

Have you been able to play the game in the past?..If so, have you made any changes to your computer since the last time you were able to play the game??

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/1/2015 7:30:01 PM)

No I have only recently purchased the game, and not played before on this PC.

Just post here with a screenshot of the problem as it looks, this is a very helpful place.

This part of the forum will handle gif, txt, jpeg or zip files. you need to click on the Click here to upload! link in the bottom right corner when you reply.

Skyros,
Thanks for the reply though I'm no wiser.I don't know how to get a screen shot from the game, and the Click here to upload link I don't see at all ?

Maybe I should just use the disk as a coaster and uninstall the game. Unplayable for me at present.

When you are posting (like I am typing now) there is a check box just below the editing window that says "Embed picture in post". Check it. Second, click on "Click here to upload!" and follow the prompts to select a file from your PC, click OK to upload it, click OK again after it finishes uploading.

I'm thinking Hexside Details is causing this (it does for me), but I'll leave it to other more experienced types.

Sardaukar -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/5/2015 4:36:06 PM)

Note that you cannot see options to add attachments and pics if using "Fast reply". You need to use "Post Reply".

Lowpe -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/5/2015 6:02:00 PM)

I get that glitch, or something like it, every now and then, usually after alt-tab ing from another program or waking up from sleep.

For me minimizing and then maximizing works to remove the problem.

However, that is simply a mad guess, you need to provide way more details: machine, op sys, etc., etc., etc. Latest graphic drivers, etc.

Have you read the readmes and played with the command line prompts for example?

Command Line Switches:
There are a number of command line switches that may be useful to players. To use these, Right click to edit the Properties on the “Quick Start” shortcut to the game (located in your Start Menu folder for War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition). You’ll want to add these to the end of the “Target” field to get them to work
-dual : Enables better support for processors with more than one core (i.e. Intel Core 2 Duo)
-colorBlind : Support for color blindness
-deepColor : Enables 32 bit color
-altFont : Enables alternate in-game font (Lucida Sans Unicode)
-w : Windowed mode
-wd : Windowed mode, daily autosaves
-ww : Windowed mode, weekly autosaves
-fd : Full screen, daily autosaves
-fw : Full screen, weekly autosaves
-r : Show Roads
-autosave : Daily autosave

Again when trying to post my PC specs I get the damn message about links, email addresses and phone numbers.

What is the matter with this forum?

I am close to giving up on this game.

Does what you are posting actually have any email addresses or phone numbers?

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/8/2015 9:46:26 AM)

No. Otherwise I wouldn't be frustrated with this forum. One minute I can post the next time the message pops up as I try to submit my post.

OK, then when you say "PC specs" are you typing them in or cut & pasting from somewhere? If you are cut & pasting then maybe there is something in there that the forum software is (mis)interpreting as email or phone number or address info.

Whatever the answer to that is, a work-around might be to type or paste the information into a text editor (like Notepad, Windows default editor) and then take a screen capture and post the .jpg image.

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/9/2015 1:39:53 PM)

witpqs,
Thanks for your help. I am trying to simply type my PC specs into a forum post.

I don't understand why this forum makes it so frustrating to post into.

I understand what your saying, but what a load of messing about just to get a post accepted.

I will try typing my PC specs into notepad and taking a screenie then trying to post it that way.

I now have 12 posts, and I bet I still get the damn pop up at some stage of trying to post.

witpqs -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/9/2015 4:26:07 PM)

Yeah, probably an anti-spambot feature that's going a little nuts and catching you instead.

If all else fails you can try sending me a PM and I will post them.

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/9/2015 5:11:50 PM)

Thanks,
Again blocked trying to post, so I sent a PM.

A couple of thoughts.

I can't say why the forum doesn't like that cut & paste, but maybe it is the '@' character coupled with your low post count? There have been serious problems with spambots in the past and I know they try very hard to keep the forums clean.

I looked through the thread and I don't see where you posted the switches you are using. Look at the shortcut you are clicking on to start the game. Right-click on it and click on Properties. In the Target box you will see the path and file name of the .exe you are calling (inside "" marks), plus any switches are are using (after the "").

Here is a cut and paste from another thread that shows how to properly format a Target entry:

Thanks Lokasenna

I have already tried that, but it did not change anything: "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" -w -px1920 -py1080

This is an error. Do not reference autorun.exe. Change it to: War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe

In other words, what you have above should read:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -px1920 -py1080

Now that might not be the final answer to fix the problem(s) you've run into, but it is the place to start.

This will help eliminate that you are, for example, calling autorun.exe instead of the game file directly. autorun.exe will start the game, but AFAIK it will NOT pass along any of the switches.

Next, you might try the -dd_sw switch. That tells the game to use software to emulate the Direct Drive stuff. I'm thinking that maybe the Direct Drive on your graphics card might have some incompatibility with the game.

We are going out now, but someone else might be around to help.

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/9/2015 8:59:22 PM)

witpqs,
Thanks, I will try to post the switches I am using to fire up WITP AE.

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/10/2015 7:33:45 PM)

witpqs,
Yes I appear to be using "I:\Pacific War AE\autorun.exe" as my shortcut. It looks like I need to alter that.

Reloader62 -> RE: Unable to post a new thread in WITP AE Tech support. (8/22/2015 11:56:12 AM)

Hi Everyone,
Thank you very much for all your help. I followed the advice and now my text glitches seems fixed.
I amended my shortcut target in properties and it worked.

Thank you again.
