Rio Bravo -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/16/2015 7:10:12 AM)

Lowpe-

I can't really comment much as I am reading Joc's AAR too.

All I can say is I hope Joc kicks your butt, you Evil Emperor.

Thank you for the time and energy you put into your AAR. It has been fun reading both your and Joc's ARRs.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/16/2015 5:18:18 PM)

Well, I got the turn away. I have come to down with a cold, and quite frankly watched the replay yesterday in some fever induced fugue. I feel better today, but did a short turn and I am sure I forgot to do a fair amount.

Its a long war, so I should be ok.

Preparing to invade Juneau in Alaska.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/16/2015 10:17:41 PM)

Akyab falls, defenders (a junky railway unit) surrenders. Cox's is threatened and will probably fall with the first attack tomorrow.

Meanwhile, advance elements of the British/Australian counter attack reach Comilla which is held by a lone AA unit that will tonight. 2 More Divisions, and support troops have cleared Singers and Victoria Point and will land shortly at Chittagong securing that base, and providing troops for offensive action.

Query: When should paratroops take Tezpur cutting the rail line to the Allied troops in Southern India and Burma. Pull the trigger now, or wait? Tempted to wait.

Also, Diamond Harbor has only 1 unit, but 33 units and 47K troops are in Calcutta.

Over in Alaska, we route the defenders of Anchorage again inflicting many losses. Moving on Fairbanks and Juneau. Betties arrive safely, and bombers pick up another 40 or so strategic victory points. Runway at Coal Harbor is now 89% to level 4.

Moving on Katherine and Darwin.

Many troops and artillery being picked up in Batavia and Singers for use in: India, Luzon.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/18/2015 5:25:34 PM)

April, 1942

Well, we pick up some more strategic vp bombing North America, runways now at 92%. Soon, I will be able to unleash 70 Betties and Nells and they will start to pickup the points hopefully. Nicks are on the way to counter the 4E threat...plus a squadron of Sallies.

Juneau invasion should go off tomorrow. Juneau is worth 500 vp which is pretty impressive.

Over in India, the Allies shock attack at Comilla, no Japanese defenders. Two squadrons of Nells find the 6th Australian Division and inflict 300 losses on them. Still building my airfields and strength here. Getting engineers forward in this mod is a little difficult, but several more landed at Chittagong this day. The 4th Guards Division is past Port Blair, and there are two more divisions on the way plus some tanks. I am also massing quite a few planes ready for a solid offensive here.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/18/2015 5:34:56 PM)

I should grab Cox's this next day, further solidifying my southern India beach head.

Lots of troops that secured Java now are loaded up on ships heading for Luzon and India. I need to clean up Wenchow, Luzon, Alaska, Darwin (Katherine should fall in a day or two). Still lots to do.

Unfortunately, it will be till tomorrow before I can flip this turn. Still fighting a nasty cold, and I have a Tiemanj turn to finish first.

440 engines in the HA 35 line, adding 18 per day now, so the acceleration of the Nick, Oscar, Zero lines should start in a few days.

I don't remember agreeing to any sick leave! [:)]

Take your time, man... It's a game.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/19/2015 1:15:25 PM)

Take heart, both my turns are away.

I bought out several artillery units out of Manchuko today, and sent them to Wuchow, from there to Manila. Will be buying out more...I would like to get that heavy artillery into action.

Juneau invasion may start today, some cruisers bombarding there first...not sure what the defenders will look like. 2 Paratroop units arrived at Anchorage.

Attacking Cox's in India today. A light bombardment, some bombing and I hope to take it in one day.

Katherine might fall today...

And another grinding attack in China on the Ankang road. Bought a few bomber sentais out to help in China.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:31:09 PM)

End of the first week of April

Stalemate here in India. The 4th Guards is unloading today, plus other troops. One more division is close, and then we shall renew our march on Comilla.

Akyab and Cox's are ours...

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:32:07 PM)

Oz proceeding as expected.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:36:13 PM)

Alaska, going well.

Juneau fell without a fight, sinking three YPs. Sitka set a fire a CL, but the troops landed with no problems and will storm the garrison tomorrow.

Piling up the size 3 ports, putting in some AKEs and an AS.

Two paratroop units are at Anchorage, and I just unloaded their aviation support.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:43:17 PM)

I lost 40 Kates here a few days ago, right when I was sick. I had a neat plan, attack the same air base several days in a row with heavy cap, then lighten the cap, then stop the attack and sweep. I forgot and left them on attack with light cap. Oh well.

1 Land based sentai of Kates with noob pilots suffered really heavily, while the KB's planes also have relatively newer pilots. All the crack pilots are gone to TRACOM since I figure it will be a while before I ever see an Allied carrier.

Anyhow, Coal Harbor is finally level 4. We raided Spokane, did no damage, but there is no AA there. Sallies and Nicks are unloading to the north at Alliford Bay so things should step up here fairly quickly. Once the Nicks are in position I will be moving the KB south along the coast.

Jocke has decent search up and down the coast, tried raiding with destroyers near LA and he always spots them far out. They would have decimated his ASW TFs there.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:47:59 PM)

China

Lots of grinding attacks on the road to Ankang, while in the west we did our first attack today with a fairly heavy armor force.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:49:52 PM)

Near Lanchow, we pincered 5 units and are in the process of rendering them combat ineffective. Well, they are combat ineffective and will continue the move towards Lanchow.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 8:54:00 PM)

Wenchow is held by a Chinese Corp and Brigade, but is being bombed medium heavily now, but the heavy artillery from Manchuko is on the way and will carry this battle before moving onto Luzon.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/20/2015 9:10:54 PM)

Got the magical 500 engines for the Ha35, should start the Nick in a week.

VP stand at 2.78 to 1 and climbing nicely. If I can get my butt in gear in India and cutoff and trounce some the troops Jocke has there that will help nicely.

Finally have shipping back from the west coast and it is busy moving units from Fusan and Honshu out.

I think ok.

Fuel is 6.1 million and growing; Oil is 4.4 million and decreasing.

Interesting. What are the trend numbers per day? I know the DBB scenario is slightly different... for example, no supplies from refineries. Maybe a dumb question, but when Babes removed the 1 Supply point from Refineries did they add it "back" in with 1 more point of Fuel (10 Oil -> 9 Fuel/1 Supply in stock...is it 10->10 in DBB or 10->9 with 1 lost)?

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/21/2015 4:41:38 PM)

Sitka falls to the first attack, Anchorage's defenders routed again, Fairbanks will be under attack in 3 days or less.

More troops arrive safely in India; one more division off Port Blair and we will resume our offensive.

Fenton in Oz is Japanese. Moving on Darwin.

Makin taken. 1 Day before a chutai of Rufe's show up there.[8D] It was jumped over in the Olorin advance in the early days.

A good turn overall.

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/25/2015 2:42:03 AM)

Lok,

Here is the growth in fuel. I have most of the KB parked at Coal Harbor. I guess it might be viewed as a tremendous waste, but the fighters provide extra CAP, and the fuel burn is very minimal.

I sincerely doubt that a cruise down the coast would yield many fruits; perhaps raids on the industry might and I will explore that shortly.

Olorin was going to swap the KB on the Alaska front for the protection of the SRA. I might do that; haven't decided yet.

Not having Victoria really puts a damper on Japan's ability to bomb the USA, and this mod even more with the smaller engineering units. But we are moving forward.

VP ratio is now 2.75 to 1; and I am shipping plenty of artillery to clean up Luzon, China, and India.

What has happened in recent turns...Darwin is now threatened, some good attacks in China, and I feel that we are close to breaking thru on the Ankang road, an armor only attack in western China, and the Allies continue to hide for the most part.

There are two more divisions close to landing at Chittagong, and Cox's and Akyab are ours. I need to move here to cut off the 1st Burma and about 14 other units.

In Alaska a few more invasions are very close.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/5151232E1AD744539EADF6A63073451E.jpg[/image]

A lot of the jump in supply burnage recently is increased engine production...

Lowpe -> RE: Oh, Canada! (9/25/2015 3:50:21 AM)

Ok, flipped the turn. We might get in several turns tomorrow and then a break as I am traveling this weekend. Been traveling a lot lately, plus I got sick.[:(] Going to see son #2, he starts the storied Caldwell March this weekend (and gets hair as a perk). But we are also on pins and needles as son #1 might call any minute with details of his go status from Darby to Mountains. Probably will be a late night.[&:]

If none of that makes sense, you may google it. I never did RS; and if you have never done it -- well, then it is very hard to describe the turmoil you go thru taking it, and your family goes thru watching you take it; and upon picking up your sad carcass after you graduate if in fact you do graduate. Was that clear?[:D] If not, google is your friend.

My R&D seems pretty sweet to me right now with the Nick starting shortly, emphasis on Frank A, Oscar, and Zero lines. I have fully repaired factories in Nick, Tojo IIb, A6M3a, A6M5 and a bomber or two plus a solid engine bonus in the Ha35. After that focus, I have some good R&D on Sam, Sam J and Tony. Small amounts on George, Tojo and Jack. The more I think about this game, pdu off, the Frank A is the killer plane to get early (which also means an early Frank r). Yes, go for Oscar and Zero-Zeke line, but it is the Frank A early that will really rule due to the number of squadrons you can have.

I am planning on losing 40,000 planes in this game.

Frank B: Only 3 big squadrons go there, and a few chutai. But, what a wonderful bomber killer. I have one factory r&d this, but come 1943 might invest more in it.

Ok, I did invest in one more factory to research the turbojet. I have one r&d factory for the Karyu, and might make the Kikka; at least that is my plan subject to intervention by Jocke. In addition I have three factories going after the Ki94 which most Army fighters can eventually upgrade to.

I don't feel great about my NF r&d, but might have a chance to improve this is a little while.

I am not making the super heavy battleships. Might not ever.

I am looking at how many squadrons upgrade to the Rufe/Rex line. I would like to do all four BB conversion to BB/CS. Might not be practical.

Lowpe -> Operation Avacado (9/25/2015 4:17:27 AM)

Jiminy crickets! What the heck is Jocke doing awake now and posting in his AAR?[X(] I am awake waiting to hear from my wayward son, but what is his excuse? It must be godawful early there.

Perhaps he has planned an elaborate ambush? The Prince of Wales descending upon Chittagong for example (please, it would be a one way trip). Perhaps one of his children is sick, which just happens to be the case since Jocke usually sends voluminous notes with his turn. Nothing wrong in that.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have almost clicked on his AAR; and I did click on it at least twice, but thankfully exited out. Unlike other board members who actually posted their AAR entry in their opponent's AAR.

Ah, Ranger School - what fond memories - NOT! And from what I've seen it's much tougher now than it was 45 (!!) years ago when I did it. BTW, Dahlonega is the easiest of the phases.
