Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (8/31/2017 3:36:35 PM)

No turn from Jocke for a couple of days. We will hang in suspense if the the IJN raiders can get away, and can Hansa Bay be reinforced, and can we wipe out those two Allied Divisions in Burma.

Lowpe -> Spitfire VII (9/2/2017 11:15:57 AM)

Dec 7th,1943

During the night no encounters around New Britain...hopefully Hansa Bay got some fast transport troops in.

During the morning the Spitfire's start to show up, several waves, and then the Jugs. A sore trial for low altitude multi layered CAP.

Spitfires gave me nothing but grief in my last game...but this game has Symon's air mod in it.

Lowpe -> RE: Spitfire VII (9/2/2017 11:17:49 AM)

After 3 waves of Spitfires, the Jugs show up in large numbers.

Lowpe -> Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/2/2017 11:20:29 AM)

Spitfires, Jugs and now Lightnings. Oh my!

Lowpe -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/2/2017 11:22:37 AM)

All together now!

Well, it is a bloody day in the air over Magwe.

Layered, low level CAP. Learn it. Live it. Love it.[:)] Lightnings have really taken it on the chin in this game, thankyou Symon, and probably should never be used as front line sweepers.

The Spitfire devastation was a pleasant surprise.

Jocke has been exceedingly frugal in his use of Jugs so a chance to fight them on terms about as good as Japan will ever get, is most welcome.

New Britain

[image]local://upfiles/44178/1D9A29C59A4C42329FE898FF9B18C7D2.jpg[/image]

Those 500 men were experience 90 SNLF troopers. Very nice to rescue them.[:)] Another 1500 men arrived today in the hex, with more coming in the next several days. 15,000 troops left to rescue, and if they can make Gasmata, I can use planes rather than flying boats.

Lokasenna -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/3/2017 3:04:45 PM)

Lightnings are terrible in stock, too.

Lowpe -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/3/2017 8:29:41 PM)

No turn today. Maybe a turn tomorrow. No turn Tuesday. Ok, Obvert, you gotta keep me busy.[;)]

morejeffs -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/4/2017 8:31:16 AM)

Sadly...Lightnings seemed to have been pretty good IRL vs Japanese fighters.....

From Wiki.
The P-38 was credited with destroying more Japanese aircraft than any other USAAF fighter.[4]

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (9/4/2017 7:37:53 PM)

Dec 8th, 1943

IJN sends the Iboats into the congested Lae shipping lanes...and we hit on 3 cargo ships.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (9/4/2017 7:39:01 PM)

Not to be outdone, but we get a strike in the Bay of Bengal too, and even better a good DL on ships making the Ramree supply run...

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (9/4/2017 7:40:01 PM)

The Iboat radio's in the contact, the Army sorties a sentai of Lillys', and it is target practice.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (9/5/2017 12:36:01 PM)

New Britian

Allies moving fast here...I need more time to deliver rear area supplies and retreat troops.

Sub rush claimed several ships, but will now retreat...IJN Cruiser SAGs refueled and are Manus right now.

KB is dark...but I expect the next thrust will wait on Hansa Bay falling, and be small ships with no Allied carriers. Heck he has two huge air bases to fly from...

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (9/5/2017 5:19:12 PM)

Currently a stalemate up here in Alaska, no doubt winter weather is great help.

It is a long way to Japan from here...

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (9/5/2017 5:35:38 PM)

Burma

Allies marching all around in central Burma.

Only 130 Japanese fighters at Magwe currently. I am pondering about boosting that back up a bit. No Allied sweeps there after the bloodbath on the previous day.

Oil and fuel does move from Magwe by trucks and bicycles and wagons to the rail junction to the east.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/EE4A25554D4C4DFBBEE9B82119EE9F0E.jpg[/image]

So many Allied troops away from a chance to upgrade their equipment, move fast via rail or ships, Burma is turning into a great tarpit for Japan. I have managed to cycle almost all my troops for their upgrades, and I guess the next big challenge will be the June 44 Type 3 tanks...although I can't envision being so far forward by then.

They still do very well against A6M, Oscars and Tonys.

People claiming P38s are not that good are pretty funny and should ask all my Tojo pilots killed.. (half a 42 Tojo unit annihalated - over 20 downed was the worst of P38 and P40K sweeping. While Allies lost not much only the 1st wave of sweepers suffered).

Guess their (your?) pilots are not the best then.. but sounds like good news that George etc. will be better and have a chance vs. P38s.

People have always told me that I'm a good comic.

Seriously though - you can't expect Lightnings to do anything like what they did IRL.

Alpha77 -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/6/2017 6:57:59 PM)

Well for sure in games I played P38s are the best you can get in 42.

That's not saying much / is a pretty low bar [:D]

Bif1961 -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/7/2017 10:02:46 PM)

P-38s are good sweepers but not good on CAP, since you have limited pools for the P-38E model earliest version. So use them to sweep and not to CAP and they will survive longer and actually live up to their potential better.

Lowpe -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/10/2017 2:23:09 PM)

The altitude HR in this game, have allowed me to trash P38s with Zeroes. In 1942 there was an 20K sweep rule and 1943 a 30K sweep rule.

Jocke has taken the weekend off, has the turn, so I have been restricted to perusing tracker, but instead of doing that I have concentrated on my other game.

It will probably be a slow week ahead for turn flipping.

Bif1961 -> RE: Spitfires, Jugs and Lightnings, oh my! (9/11/2017 12:52:26 AM)

I have an HR that allows 1K over the 2nd best altitude ban which would place the P-38 at 31,000 feet and the A6M2 26,000 feet max. I think this is fair because most planes didn't fly anywhere near their top altitude as they flew like trucks and the pilot would have to be on oxygen for hours and wrestle with the controls raising pilot fatigue.

Lowpe -> Finis (9/11/2017 9:23:22 PM)

Finis

The end.

Jocke let me know this morning that due to changes at home that he cannot continue playing the game that has seen so many great turns from both sides.

A big thanks to Olorin, who let me pick up the game and had one of the strongest openings I ever saw.[&o]

And another super big thankyou to the readers and participants of this AAR[&o].

And a great big thanks to Jocke, a wonderful pbem player.[&o]

Thank you all.

Canoerebel -> RE: Finis (9/11/2017 9:48:49 PM)

But you aren't going to let the game end here, are you? You'll find some willing Allied player to pick it up. It's an interesting map and situation for both sides and needs to be furthered.

Hey, maybe you could persuade Bullwinkle to take it on!

Drakanel -> RE: Finis (9/11/2017 10:37:03 PM)

I'd really like to see this continue as well.

I hope you can find another opponent, to keep the game going on [8D]

Dont know. I need a few recovery days.

njp72 -> RE: Finis (9/12/2017 12:37:21 AM)

Sorry to hear about the game Lowpe.

As always with your games, they are fun and exciting.

I have really enjoyed your input and contribution over the last couple of years. Hopefully the game can be resurrected so the adventure can continue.

BillBrown -> RE: Finis (9/12/2017 12:44:59 AM)

If you think you might want to continue, I can do a turn a day. I have not really followed you or Jockes AAR, so I an unsure what is happening now.
