Cloncurry lost 350 or so resource points. A nice little haul.[:)] I think I lost two planes to ops.

I've bombed Cloncurry now five times. Not a single resources hit. Whatever the trick to strategic bombing is, I can't figure it out.

What is your altitude?

Turn is away and I and going to bombard Chittagong with a cruiser force today, and hopefully a battleship force tomorrow. The Kongo's aren't spotted yet, and will be safely under the Akyab air umbrella by the end of today.

A little worried he might sprint in with his carriers, but I have some pretty stiff CAP to protect my ships forward.

Chittagong, although not swimming in supply, at least has a nice cushion now with more on the way. Surprised the Allies has let me send in xaks there. Seems a simple business to sweep and set something to a short range naval strike. Fearing that I did try a somewhat elaborate trap, and not only did he not strike, he never even spotted the xaks![:)]

Lots of shipping heading to Alaska and Pearl Harbor. I need both areas to stage all my men...

Raiding Astoria, Sweeping Cloncurry. Other little things in the works...

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/29/2016 2:30:35 PM)

End of Nov, 1942

Cruisers bombard British and Australian divisions at Chittagong...

Allies respond by closing the runway at Chittagong. Flak damages planes, and 3 bombers are write offs for ops.

The cruiser task force that bombarded Chittagong, sticks around to refuel and rearm at Chittagong. Good thing the Allies are timid with their strike planes...

Dual shore bombardments...nice results at Chittagong.

Lowpe -> Something wicked this way comes (4/29/2016 4:29:36 PM)

Allies bombard back, and bomb the runways.

Not a surprise...the Allied carriers.

2nd day of strikes lets the flak bring down some previously damaged/tired planes.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/29/2016 6:40:04 PM)

Finished the turn, and sent it back to Jocke, and now I wish I had bulked up the naval search in the Bay of Bengal even more. Only added one squadron...

This is the last day for a big Nell unit operating out of Rangoon. I have to pull them out Dec 1, 1942. Pity.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/29/2016 10:32:04 PM)

Last day of November 1942

Allied CV force pulls back and to the north in the Bay of Bengal...

Severe storms greets the third day of bombing and sweeps at Chittagong. The Allies lose 4 bombers there for the day...

2nd Division lands at Pearl. 5 Divisions at Pearl; 7 Divisions in Alaska (or on the way). Getting close.[X(]

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/29/2016 11:40:37 PM)

I have repaired the oil at Sian fully, it wasn't that damaged.

Lanchow was trashed, but I have been making good progress on repairing it too.

However, in this game refining oil doesn't create any supply.

I wonder how that changes the math on repairing oil?

Supply topped 4 million, and I seem to be salting away almost 15K a day.

Fuel is 6.8 million and growing. I feel so flush compared to a scenario 1 game.[:D]

Oil is 3.5 million and declining. 2700 a day in the red.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/30/2016 12:24:53 AM)

PDU off...what joy. Sometimes. So many things to double check prior to upgrading.

The Lilly IIb starts production today, one day early.[:)] I have a whopping 11 Sentai that can upgrade to it!!! Some of the squadrons get withdrawn later in 44.

My production is a very rich 62 per month. 4 Ha35 engines a day, which will be a struggle.

I have already set up one squadron at Rangoon to upgrade, and just finished staffing it with skill 70 Army dive bombing pilots. They will work on their Naval Search until the planes are in and repaired.

I am not sure Jocke has encountered these beauties before...but he will in this game.

The Lilly IIb is integral in my plans for defending the Japanese perimeter in 43. Can fly from a measly size 2 runway.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/30/2016 2:20:08 AM)

Goodbye to Sally IIa in favor of the IIb.

Late in 44 two size 10 mini squadrons (training?) arrive and stay with the Sally IIa, so I will need to make sure I save a few in the pools.

Production of the IIb starts at 30, and will stay there. I am being super conservative with most (all ?) bomber production.

Sally IIb will be a pretty strong workhorse for the IJA, but since it is PDU off, many other bombers will play roles especially the light bombers.

I currently have only two squadrons flying the Helen and will improve that to three squadrons in a day or two.

Army bomber production:

Sonia 30
Helen IIa 30
Lilly IIa 34 (this will wind down -- perhaps I will stop it this month)
Lilly IIb 62
Sally IIb 30

No Ann or Mary production...I have to be careful as some of those squadrons upgrade to the Armored Sonia, and I don't want to run out of planes. For the most part they are in China bombing there...although I may move them to ASW work eventually.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/30/2016 1:09:35 PM)

A look at my bombing strategy for Chungking.

In red are the twin engine bombing strikes.

In yellow are the single engine bombing strikes.

The Sallies will fly from Ichang and Nanyang coordinated by the 4th Air Division at Ichang. These bases are very easily kept in wonderful supply levels in part because the China Expeditionary Army is at Ichang prepped for Chungking. As runways and support and supply build, Nanyang's planes will be slowly moved forward.

I already have 140 light bombers and 10 recon at Neikiang, and the runway will jump to level 4 tomorrow allowing 50 more single engine bombers there. The 6th Air Division is on its way to call Neikiang home.

Kweiyang will host strafing Nicks as soon as all the supply is eaten up which it very well maybe already. I won't start the strafing runs until the artillery bombardments start, and that won't happen till the remaining Artillery makes its way south from the road block near Kienko. I am in the process of rotating out a tired infantry division, and will resume the attack as soon as they leave the hex and adequate supply flows in.

I will be attacking at Chengtu with 3 Infantry Divisions, 1 Tank Division and a Tank Regiment on the morrow. I hope to take this base first, and currently it is defended with 50,000+ troops and 12 units. Bombing shows no flak present. Chengtu will provide another base for light bombers or fighter bombers.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/30/2016 10:17:33 PM)

I manually upgraded my first Lilly Dive Bomber squadron. Only three planes, but I just couldn't wait. In six days all the pilots should be there and we can add another 12 planes or start working on my second squadron while this one continues to train some finishing skills.

Also got my third Helen squadron functional today. No more Helens for quite a while I think.

Army dive bombers!

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 11:33:33 AM)

1st Week of Dec 1944

Moonlight is low, around 20 percent or so, and the Wasp blunders into my Iboat trap above Sydney.

The high volume of radio traffic intel, that aided in the justification of this trap, certainly paid off.

I thought I might score another CV, but really, I thought it would be in the Bay of Bengal.

The LeTriomphant, one of my favorite ships, is hapless at early ASW. When I played as the Allies she would almost always get sunk by an Iboat in nasty, nasty near Suva. So much so, I would just leave her in port until some halfway decent ASW could show up to escort her away.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/6742F4BCE5564ED68DED71D665BB51F5.jpg[/image]

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 11:35:08 AM)

In for a penny, in for a pound. That is quite the excellent group of Iboats there as I was hoping to sink a CV when I sprang operation Mornington Island.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/8BE670FDEB584604B192EDA196268C8F.jpg[/image]

Just a nasty area to be steaming carriers. Very predictable, and away from aerial ASW & deep water to boot.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 11:43:18 AM)

After taking several days of R&R, bombers are tasked to start the disablement of Chungking's ground forces.

Having Ledo, and in general no supply in most of China hopefully will keep Allied fighters away. I need to give some thought to suppressing Kunming.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 11:46:06 AM)

One of several air attacks on Chengtu. Some light bombers will keep the runway damaged, to prevent forts from building (I doubt that is too great a concern), while everybody else focuses on the troops.

I moved two divisions out of Chengtu on the wonderful roads for several days of rest and refitting prior to the next attack, which, if I do my part with the air force, should take the city.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 11:54:57 AM)

Chittagong, and a minor trap fails to launch because of weather or distance.

There is always tomorrow.

This is just dangling troops to get the Allies attentions...

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 12:03:48 PM)

No ground losses of CV planes...

No Iboats are spotted, and it seems like the Wasp will head north to Brisbane.

It was a morning attack, and there is heavy rain there now.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 12:09:29 PM)

Plenty of torpedoes left in I-170 to finish off the Wasp.

Also present in the same hex is I-171 skippered by a 70 naval, 77 aggression Captain. Plus two more Iboats, one to the north and one to the south.

Although I have been miserly with PP outside of the West Coast operation, I have been changing out my Iboat Skippers faithfully.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 12:18:24 PM)

Kind of worked. The theory is sound, so I will drop off a load of mines one hex closer so the Vals are carrying ship killing 250 kg bombs.

In addition, the sub laid minefield might catch his cruiser force as it sorties from Calcutta to bombard Chittagong or points south.

That would be two-fer.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/1/2016 12:22:02 PM)

Last three days of intel reports.

Sydney has been consistently a generator of a heavy volume of traffic for the past two months.

San Francisco is interesting, too bad my raiding destroyer found only yard sweepers.
