Can you redirect a convoy once you have chosen a map entry point? I can't remember.

That used to be asking for trouble, but Michael did a lot of work on bugs related to off-map/on-map movement changes. Hopefully one of the guys who has experience with it will reply, but I think that you can do it now without opening up a galactic vortex or something else bad.

obvert -> RE: Manila Falls (6/30/2016 5:08:33 PM)

Changing the entry point where the TF comes on-map has always worked for me. I wouldn't want to redirect backward to the off-map base though. I haven't tried it because it used to cause a bunch of trouble!

I too read both AAR's, and so dont usually comment in either. I would agree completely with CR - not a whiff of opsec breach. And I also want to say how much I am enjoying this contest. You and Joc are both to be commended for the effort required to keep these AAR's so up-to-date and interesting.

Thanks Dave...

A lot of times I send Jocke the replay right after I have run the turn so he can update his AAR.

I think this is a slight advantage for the Allies, as it gives Jocke longer to reflect upon the turn
prior to actually doing it. But in no ways is it a huge advantage.

I think I got the better end of the deal, running the turn first, and also all the scenario two goodies. I really feel like a kid in the candy store most times.

Once you capture Betty Grable you will withdraw?

I've had this mod-fantasy, where a 'Grable-enabled' USO LCU could be flown in to an Allied base & give a morale-boost to some units. Of course, if she was lost/captured, there'd be an awful downside.

Good to know...so really nothing will come. Perhaps I should mosey a few scouts further south to help out the Iboats already there.

AV's are kind of handy for this...

Looking good Lowpe!! Keep it coming.

Thanks, it is funny, but I am slowing down on my turns. Part is real life, and part I don't want anymore silly mistakes, but also, I have this lingering horror that this is the best it will get...so I want to savor each turn and process them slowly. I see a huge sword ready to drop on me from up high.

Pretty strange, and not all together unpleasant, or without benefit: it did allow me to pull off the cargo plane attack yesterday.

It bothers me that I have no idea what a 2 point tanker was doing off Luzon. How many more splintered forces do I have out there doing whatever?

It also bothers me I ran two Oilers into Santa Ana....I thought I had pulled them all back out for fear of subs.

I am opening the turns with a strong sense of foreboding, but they have been going really well even though I am cringing thru it and my first reaction at the end of the turn is disbelief. Did I make it thru another day? Really? How did I do that?

Yesterday's destroyer skirmish really was fun...I love the naval battles (good and bad); and I especially like it when I use small task forces and they do well.

Now I am starting to worry about how to escape from LA? Sounds like a bad movie.

obvert -> RE: Manila Falls (6/30/2016 5:39:42 PM)

Are you landing up North or is that just a ruse?

If you are that would mean much less on the table for an Allied counter attack. If not, be quick in the South!

BillBrown -> RE: Manila Falls (6/30/2016 6:14:23 PM)

I have redirected TFs that are still in the move to map holding box to return back to the nearest off map base with no ill effects.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/1/2016 5:48:29 PM)

Once again thanks everyone.

Just finished the turn and sent it off to Jocke, taking me quite a while to do the turns.

Today will be another attack in China, but tomorrow will be the first deliberate/shock attack at Chungking where I will really take it on the chin, but at least close another hexside.

I suspect lots of blood in the waters around LA...as the PT boats are in force there, and minefields, etc. etc.

I also worked on other neglected areas of the map.

Picture ...you just have to love ARD's for Japan, and I have 3!

Here one at Truk will get a destroyer back in service.

Just a ruse, veering off today.

I feel the time very strongly. A big question is how big are the forts at San Diego?

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/1/2016 5:50:11 PM)

Tojo IIb should be tangling with P40, P47 today I bet! Can I wear them down?

Do you have enough quality pilots to do so?

Lokasenna -> RE: Manila Falls (7/1/2016 6:32:29 PM)

You should pull that sub off of Repair Ship and put her on Pier Side, just to be sure the DD gets the repairs.

I juggled all the settings and these were the best, although some other settings were identical.

There is an ARD and a AS there helping...perhaps an AD too.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/1/2016 9:51:48 PM)

Jocke is on summer vacation, and won't flip the turn till tomorrow which will give me some time to analyze tracker and work on my shipping....my economy...my planes.

The 1# for the sub means it isn't doing any repairing this turn. The AS can't repair that 8 float damage.

If it were me, I'd stick the sub in the ARD until it was at 5 and then let the port fix it...

LoBaron -> RE: Manila Falls (7/2/2016 8:23:22 AM)

Hey lowpe! Your aar is a very entertaining journey!

While there is time due to jockes vacation, can you maybe share your thoughts on the cost of the combined operations against Hawaii and WC with with regards to fuel.

IIRC this is a scen30 game, so DBB goodies on a scen2 baseline, correct? I am aware that scen2 provides more ressources to the Japanese industry, but also increases consumption. I have no idea if the same applies to scen30.

On a standard DBB campaign Japan needs to plan operations involving combined fleet conservatively in order to have any staying power remaining in '45. Those two ops would basically autocollapse the IJ eceonomy.

Did you make any calculations on consumption and how the ops impact your late war economy?

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/2/2016 12:29:06 PM)

Jocke managed to do the turn, so I will run it now, since he is requesting the replay back and strongly hinting that this will be an interesting turn.

Fasten your seat belts![X(]

I will address the comments above afterwards...

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/2/2016 12:33:46 PM)

Clear skies, moonlight almost 60%....

The first of the anti-PT boat Task Forces...skirmishes with no effect, but already at least one convoy has altered course to evade.

Into mine infested waters of LA...

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/2/2016 12:41:50 PM)

IJN screening task forces are engaging the PT boat squadrons fast and furiously. Here we sink two, but also expend some torpedoes on the little jerks...

The two previous skirmishes saw none sunk, and the PT boats did close with the San Clemente invasion force of DDs and APDs, but the IJN evaded in this case...it seems the Fast Transports are drawing the PT boats to San Clemente while others are fought at LA.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/2/2016 12:44:25 PM)

Incredible number of engagements...but the IJN is doing well so far. However, it takes only one slip up.

Hagikaze hits a mine at LA...

Atago hits a mine at Santa Ana...

Bombardments of San Diego reveal the 43rd Inf Division...damage disappointing.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (7/2/2016 12:59:36 PM)

With dawn, comes even more attacks....some IJN destroyer forces are outside of the air umbrella.

Allied subs mostly take a beating thru the night...but this sub got a shot off on a juicy target by attacking with the rising sun behind her.

The morning starts off normally enough.

Look, heavy rain at Chungking. Must be miserable there this time of year!
