nijis -> Campaign system - very simple but works really well (8/20/2015 11:17:34 PM)

I just want to praise the elegance of the strategic system. Despite its simplicity, it does a really good job of modelling the ebb and flow of 17th century warfare - much better than more complicated treatments like EU, I'd say. A key design decision seems to be to allow weaker armies to always decline battle, at a penalty - because they could, almost always, until the 19th century. Pitched battles between mismatched forces were incredibly rare, and are also tedious to play. I'd love to see some chrome added to this in expansions or DLCs - maybe some diplomacy, more complicated siege, naval, and forager-vs-patrol skirmish warfare, a longer time frame, etc. But please keep the elegant kernel of the original!
