taijeronv -> AAR Replay (8/27/2015 11:53:58 AM)

I think it would be interesting to view an entire replay either turn-by-turn, or as "film". Games like Decisive Action, TacOpsCav and Follow Me had this capability. Granted all three games were used to train the military but I think it would be pretty entertaining to actually watch an AAR instead of reading JUST a write up. So how could you use such a capability? To learn tactics is the first thing that comes to mind. I've seen a couple of threads from new players who had questions on tactics. Imagine downloading an AAR file along with a narrative of key points in the film. Now the player gets a narrative plus a visual. A better solution would be inline commentary while the film plays. For example a player could add inline text commentary that pops up at key points in the AAR. 3rd Party commentaries. Remember the old AH General magazine? In almost every issue there was some kind of replay with 3rd party commentary. I could see some of the more hardcore wargamers doing this. If I were back teaching cadets I could use it as a 20 minute homework assignment. Watch this AAR and provide a one page analysis of the operation. You can imagine the possibilities. The way I've done it in the past is to create an AAR file while playing both sides. In this way I know exactly what both sides are doing, and what the main teaching points are. I think DA and TacOpsCav strings together the save game files, I can't remember. Anyway I think it would be interesting. TJ
