Blind Sniper -> WitE nowadays (8/29/2015 3:57:09 PM)

Hello all,

I'm back after a long hiatus (I have played this game in the early months) and I noticed that hundreds of changes/bug fixes and improvements have been done, some veteran players can be so kind to give me an overall situation with the last patch?

I remember balance issue after the first winter, HQ build up a bit strong, strong point wasn't so effective therefore ahistorical defence were used (carpet, checkboard), lot of games end in the '41-'42 (of course I can remember wrong).

chaos45 -> RE: WitE nowadays (8/29/2015 4:17:36 PM)

Wait for .05 due out hopefully within the next month. Even more fixes will be in that patch.

Since version 8 I dont think any games have made it much past 1942. Several are at end of 1942 and I think one is about summer of 1943.

Germans are still very strong in mid to late 1942, just a matter of if its to strong or just right to balance out the LW gains the Soviets get.

Blind Sniper -> RE: WitE nowadays (8/29/2015 9:16:43 PM)

Thanks chaos45, I just read the loki100's post in the war room and it seems the right solution for the main problems is still far to be implemented.

Also I noticed that who post is either a newcomers or one of the small circle of veterans (usually), where are all other players?

Read it again.

Facts are if the players are equal then Russia will win or draw 100% of the time.

If the German player is very good vs a newbie he win out in 42.

The game is very balanced dispite what people are posting.

The FACT is all 4 games that are listed in the opening post will end in Russian win or draw.

Data is much more important then feelings.

If you think Russia should win in 44 all things being equal then yes the games broken, but if you think that all things being equal games should end in 45 then the games working great.

Game is in the best shape ever by far.

You guys who want to limit the "Pz ball", do that then you get complaints about "too much like WW1".

Soviet counter-offensive is doable winter 42-43 even v very good players, IMO :)

Blind Sniper -> RE: WitE nowadays (8/31/2015 5:33:26 PM)

Thanks for all your replies, glad to see WitE is still under improvement [:)]

I still hope for a WW1 game in the style of WITE/WITW...

timmyab -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/3/2015 10:34:07 AM)

An ARR from this game would read something like.
Turn 1: Nothing happened
Turn 2: Nothing happened
Turn 3: Nope, still nothing
Turn 4: Guess what?
Turn 5: zzzzzz

[:D]

morvael -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/3/2015 11:16:32 AM)

East front in WW1 would offer many months worth of maneuver warfare, same as opening on the West front. Rest would be indeed represented as deliberate attacks with HELD result.

Aside from dates, can't WW1 East be recreated in WitE editor, and played with increased fort and decreased logistics setting to represents limits of doctrine and mechanization of the period?

By the way, WitE detractors say it's already WW1 game :)

chaos45 -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/3/2015 12:04:02 PM)

I dont think its anywhere near a WW1 game in 1941/1942 so far lol. Also what alot of people dont realize is alot of the fighting on the eastern front in WW2 was very much like WW1. Basically almost all the operations North of the OKA after the initial 1941 period were very much almost WW1. Long front lines with periods of extremely heavy attirtional style attacks by the Soviets that they often came out the losers of by a large scale.

Only in the south after 1941 was it really manuever war due to the open terrain. Things stayed very attritional in the north basically all the way up to Bagration when the Soviets basically destroyed AGC which stripped the German defenses so bad they couldnt form a solid line anymore. If the Soviets could ever reduce the German Armies manpower in the game I think you would see more fluid frontlines in 1943 on but right now it seems the German army can stay much stronger than historical for a long time which keeps things even more static.

Everyone seems to say the German army suddenly collapses and the Soviets can break through in 1944 well waiting to see that, and the German lines should begin to crack/break in 1943 if you follow something close to historical results.

Hi M, others,

Remember Moscow in 5 turns?, .08.00, That was too much
Axis, and quickly fixed.

Don't know why so many have left, maybe for good. They should look again. M and pals have done the "impossible".

May not see .05 before Christmas. It's another huge project and even if it goes to Matrix in Sept, Moving thru the Matrix "food chain" can take a long time.

Bozo_the_Clown -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/3/2015 2:23:40 PM)

No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig it still is a pig. WitE is incredibly fun to play just as long as you don't treat it like a historical war game. I enjoy playing it as a fantasy war game. There are things you can do in in this game that are absolutely laughable and have nothing to do with reality. Lvov pocket and Panzer ball in 41 and 42 are two examples. Russians attacking in 41 and 90% of attacks succeeding even without the attack bonus is another example. But it's super fun and I don't regret spending $50 for it.

The work that has been going on just scratches the surface. These are basically cosmetic changes trying to cover up the major flaws of this game.

For me there have always been two major problems:

1. Russians are too strong at the beginning of the campaign.
2. Germans are too fast during the entire campaign.

I never understood why the Russian army has to be so strong at the beginning of the game. I also don't understand why Russian leaders have to be so strong. It would be much better to lower their ratings by 50% and let them recover 5% each turn. Because the Russians are too strong at the beginning you have to do the Lvov pocket or the game is over.

German advance is just too fast. Rail buiding in this game is a joke. HQ buildup is still a joke. Slow down rail repair or eliminate HQ buildup. My preference would be to slow down rail repair. Maybe 2 MP in the balic and 5 MP everywhere else. Eiminating the southern FBD was the wrong choice because it doesn't fix the main problem. In this game you can have absolutely perfect supply in the center until mud and tanks have permanent 48-50 MP.

Just my thoughts.

I take the usual jelling that will follow off the air.

Blind Sniper -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/7/2015 6:19:09 PM)

Thanks for all your considerations, I'm playing a short scenario right now and I will start my first CG soon [:)]

Speaking of pigs. Is there a specific reason why on T12 I receive 25 tank brigades of which 15 have 1 MP? Basically, all tank brigades on the eastern edge of the map have normal MP and all tank brigades closer to the front have 1 MP. Could be intentional but I don't understand why?

Bozo_the_Clown -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/8/2015 3:36:46 PM)

I have lost track of all the different versions of GG WitE. But I remember a version were some fuel dumps were eliminated when the HQ was moved. This seems to be completely gone in the current version. HQ moves and all the fuel dumps remain the same. A prime example of one of the absurdities in this game. HQs have 50 MP so just move them 25 MP closer to the railhead with your Ju-52, refuel and move them 25 hexes back to the front. Maximum fuel delivery. Zero fuel loss. One HQ moves to the gas station, the other one performs HQ buildup. Two Corps with 50 MP.

Any thoughts?

Personally, I would like to see fuel delivery via air completely eliminated. It's such a joke.

Bozo, Mr. Grigsby likes what Churchill said about Sov Union, "riddle wrapped in mystery, cloaked in enigma", or something.

But see, we can PBEM, make a save before "end turn", and, if something weird happens in logistics phase or whatever, just reload and do the offending turn again.

Because 450 guys can't fit on 1 tank [:D]

Oh, I don't know, you could stack them. [:D] But wouldn't bring much because there is 0 fuel for the single tank. And all the trucks in this shell are out of fuel too.

morvael -> RE: WitE nowadays (9/8/2015 7:42:15 PM)

Arrived unready and without supplies. Can't move without fuel. Though 454 guys should be able to pull 8 guns and 1 tank. Maybe they lack harnesses?

Ts, ts, you should have coded that in. Harnesses and then maybe 2 MP. I mean they could probably move 2 hexes in a week. No?
