East Med: Axis 8, Allied 4. No combat.
SW Indian Ocean: Axis 10, Allied 3. No combat.

Allies have opportunity to initiate combat in Italian coast (CL in box 4, declined and can be replayed if wanted) and The Marianas. To move on, I decide to initiate combat in The Marianas (CL with MAR div in box 0).

Yes, it is a suicide mission to rescue MAR div, US have 60% chance to find...

Allied 4, Axis 1.

I chose naval air combat, 6 planes diving and all two points used to bring AA fire down to NE.

Japanese CL takes X D 2A (surface combat would give any better result). CL has 2% chance to get only damaged.

CL sinks with MAR div. (Damage shown in picture is from surface combat, I tested what kind of result it would give.)

I have a feeling there will be a desperate attack, tanks should be rolling forward and not siege a city...

Germany rails INF to Istanbul and INF to Penza.

Iraqi CAV captures Kuwait.

Germany attacks (assault) Kuybyshev in blizzard using attacking HQ support and winterized units.

Result is even 23.

quote:

two important lessons: 1) Always keep on eye for enemy marines (I though after the first failed invasion that Japs are safe for some time as I had no idea how many marines US had). 2) When you invade, make sure it is A) automatic B) near automatic C) it is worth taking risk. In this case in Truk Japan had 7 disorganized ships including CV with 2 CVP's. Losing it would have been a major hit for Japan... It was easier to see what is going on in WiF, when you had map in front of you and you see all the time what your opponent is doing...

1). Keep an eye out for all "funnies"...especially PARA. Now you know where the US Marines are[:D]

2). Always try to invade with three units unless you are desperate. As for defense of a major strategic objective isolated port such as Truk...two white print corps, 1 div, and take care of this ASAP early in the game so you don't have to worry about it when things get hot and heavy with the US. Never abort ships to poorly defended locations...if they cant be aborted to well defended ports, spread them out...not in one location.

Ahhh...easier to see in WiF the board game...sure[8|]

Partisans appear at Zagreb and Katowice.

Centuur -> RE: AllenK vs Mayhemizer III: Oil be back. (3/27/2016 8:39:46 PM)

Use an AT gun in Truk as the division if the US did build the Armored Marines...

One thing the Russians need to do to stand up to the Wehrmacht is to scrap their weak units. I like to put that 2-1 GARRison in Lvov for a one impulse, 2-3 hex speed bump, and then scrap it immediately. Some players disagree with me - declaring that the Russians need mass by keeping their INF type pools as large as possible.

Not my style. If you do that, what you will find on the way back to Germany is that once you reach the Baltic again and the front narrows considerably, you will suddenly have a second line of weak units that never go back into combat, because you need the best and brightest Guards units to tackle the front-line combats. The Russians shouldn't waste Build Points on weak units that don't really challenge the German attacks.

I scrap the 2 and 3 point GARR, and eventually the 4 point, maybe on the first loss in a 1942 campaign. Same for INF - 3 and 4 points have to go. The Germans have way better Combat Factor : Build Point ratios and the Russians need the same.

Centuur -> RE: AllenK vs Mayhemizer III: Oil be back. (3/29/2016 7:09:41 PM)

It depends what the USSR has to defend. Those lousy 2-1, 3-1 GAR and 3-3 INF can be used to garrison Persia and Iraq if they are Soviet controlled, especially if the Axis doesn't control Egypt. So I tend to rail those units into that area if I can, before Germany attacks...

Because of various reasons we have decided stop playing this AAR, switch sides and start a new one. There will be few changes in rules also. We will add en-routed interception (house rule) and some kind of USSR-Japan pact to that USSR can't ruin Japanese and Axis game. We also balance game with some other minor changes in rules.

We have learned many things during this game (both rules and tactic). Germany is stuck with cities in south, why do they have all their tanks there? Best odds so far have been +1 in Astrakhan, Germany did not dare to try take it...

See picture for situation in northern front. USSR has more units there.

US lost all their marines, it would take 3 turns to rebuilt them. Japan is so weak that it will fall, but it would take some time. War in the east would not be very entertaining for anyone.

Thank you all for following our AAR and get ready for our fourth AAR!
