Let me start with the caveat that this may not be a new issue Oran issue at all but is something I just noticed in build 739 through 741.

It looks to be impossible to order a change in alttitude for helicopters with dipping sonar that are currently set to minumim altitude and a speed of zero. It looks like at that setting, they will automatically deploy dipping sonar automatically even if not checked I. The sensor screen. Consequently, they are always lowering or raising the sonar and unable to change altitude. This can be worked around by setting a plot and speed for the helicopter and then changing the altitude but is extra work.

I am away from my PC for a while but can post a save of this later if needed.

Hello Emsoy,

Thanks for the quick response. Attached is a save game file that shows the behavior.

Bowler #1 is a single helicopter unit under manual control (not assigned to a mission) hovering at 150' and at zero speed. There does not appear to be anyway to force him (once at this altitude and speed) to NOT deploy the dipping sonar in passive mode. Consequently, I can not order him to change altitude while in a hover. The only way to have him change altitude is to give him a new course and speed and once moving greater than zero, he can change altitude.

Is this a bug, intended feature or a UTS (User Too Stupid) error?

You have to be a member of the beta group in order to have access to the private beta builds.

Thanks for the response Sunburn, can you pm me on how I can apply to become a member of the beta group. I have credited beta test experience in strategic gaming industry and also an ex-bubblehead (USN submariner) So I have first hand experience of a great deal of systems represented in the game.
